Day 4 of New York was Sunday and it was probably the most busiest day and the hottest by far. We started off the day by heading downtown on the subway and we then got our tickets (which were included in the New York Pass) for the Liberty & Ellis Island Ferry. The ques were pretty long as you have to go through airport-like security. The Statue of Liberty looked pretty tiny from Manhatten, but when on the Island it was really what i thought it would be like. It was one of my favourite things i saw in New York and you have an amazing view of the Manhatten skyline from the Island. We had the chance to get off the ferry at Ellis Island but we decided not to.
Once off the ferry we walked along the Hudson River to South Street Seaport which i read about online and it just looked like a great place to go. There was old boats, shopping, food and great views of the Brooklyn Bridge. We ate lunch at Nathan Famous Grill which we saw in Coney Island but didn’t eat there. I am not kidding when i say they have the best Fries ever. I did a spot of shopping in Victoria’s Secret and managed to go in Bath & Body Works too!
We then walked through the Financial District to the 9/11 Memorial. We had to get some free time allocated tickets to be allowed in to the Memorial but i think soon you don’t need a ticket and it’ll be an open park. It was a really pretty park and the two fountains where the towers stood were really beautiful. There was even a tree there that the roots had survived and they re-planted it.
The next place we went to was Greenwich Village and it was such a beautiful part of the city, I loved all the little shops, parks and all the buildings. After getting lost a couple of times we finally found the apartment building they use in Friends! Bleecker Street is the main Street in Greenwich Village and there’s a couple of Marc Jacobs boutiques including Bookmarc which i did buy a few things. Across the road was Magnolia’s Bakery which was in an episode of Sex and the City and sells amazing Cupcakes!
Macy’s was the next place we went to and it’s the biggest department store in the world and it really was huge. It wasn’t what i was expecting though, It’s nothing like shops like Harrods or even Selfridges. I did make a cheeky purchase here 😉
As we went up the Rockerfeller Centre during the day we decided to go up the Empire State Building at night. In my opinion i didn’t think going at night and the view was as good as the top of the rock. The lights were pretty though! The ques to go up were insane, It must have been an hour to get up and an hour to get down! It’s safe to say i was tiered out by the end of the day.
