Sunday Roast Diaries: Shear’s Yard, Leeds
We are finally back with another Sunday Roast Diaries blogpost. I actually have a fair few to write about so keep your eyes peeled for an influx of posts coming! Today’s is all about Shear’s Yard in Leeds. I’ve got to say the Sunday Roast game in Leeds is pretty strong, we have so many on our list to try but we started off at Shear’s Yard. As I do most of my research for foodie places on Instagram, I’ve got to say it looked incredible in all the photos which is why I booked this one first!

Shear’s Yard is located in The Calls area of Leeds just behind the Corn Exchange before you get to the waterfront. The restaurant is such lovely setting with exposed bricked and high ceilings. I bet this would be amazing place for private hire or even a wedding reception. It’s quite a relaxed place but I’d still say it’s upmarket.
During the week, the menu is continually evolving with a tasting menu and a set menu including Sea Trout and Pork Belly. Obviously we were booked in for Sunday Lunch. You could tell this was a place which would be fully booked every weekend. I would certainly recommend booking in advance. We started off with some drinks and I got an Elderflower Gin Fizz Cocktail which was delightful.

There was an array of starters such as smoked chicken and duck Terraine, smoked haddock and braised ox cheek. As we were trying to save ourselves for the main course we just opted for some homemade bread which came with some flavoured butter. You can tell the homemade bread was delicious as I’d ate most of it before I had remembered to take a photo! 10/10 for their baked goods!

Moving on to the main event, we both went for the Roast Sirloin of Beef which was served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a Yorkshire pudding and gravy. We all know how much a lack of gravy really grates on me but this was swimming in gravy. I certainly approved. It was also the perfect consistency and just that proper rich beef gravy. The other stars of the show were the beef which was cooked pink but just how we like it and the Yorkshire pudding was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. A proper Yorkie pud. The dish was served with a couple of roast potatoes, carrots and seasonal vegetables. We also had a bit of cauliflower cheese, leeks and cabbage. To be honest, leeks wouldn’t be my first choice on a Sunday Roast but overall, i thought it was a generous portion.
The Roast Sirloin of Beef dish was £18 so it was on the higher end of the price scale. However, I did think the lovely setting, service and quality of food did justify the price. It would also be an excellent place to book if it’s a special occasion like a birthday, anniversary or something like Mother’s Day. Alternatively, a treat yourself day like us! I do have a long list of places in Leeds to visit for a Sunday Roast but this one was a great one to kick off with. If you have any other suggestions, do let me know!
XOXO
