Ambleside, The Lake District

The best UK locations for a motorhome staycation

Over the last couple of years, staycations in the UK have boomed. We have been lucky to have been on some epic road trips in the UK and discovering the beauty on our doorstep. In fact, our next trip is to the Lake District which is a place I am ever so fond of. It’s actually our fifth annual trip which is crazy! Whether it’s a camping trip or a road trip – Have you considered a Staycation in a Motorhome, because we have! Exploring the UK via a motorhome can be an excellent way to cut costs on accommodation and see even more of the country! If you decide to travel by motorhome, don’t forget to take out motorhome insurance.  Here are just a  few places in the UK you could explore in a motorhome.

The Lake District The Lake District

THE LAKE DISTRICT

Obviously starting of with my favourite. The Lake District is undeniably beautiful and there’s plenty of things to do! From tree top adventures, following in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter or indulging in a lakeside afternoon tea. I’ve done plenty of posts about the Lake District including The Perfect Itinerary for a Weekend in the Lake District and The most scenic drives in the Lake District.

The Lake District is a lot bigger than you think so it’s quite a nice place to drive around and see different towns and villages. Hawkshead and Grasmere being my favourites. However, it’s an ideal location to travel around in a motorhome and experience the natural beauty of the area. Imagine waking up to the scenes of Lake Windermere.

The Cotswolds

THE COTSWOLDS

I’ve only had the pleasure of visiting The Cotswolds once but it’s somewhere we are desperate to re-visit. There are countless picturesque villages with the most adorable cottages. It’s a great place to travel around in a motorhome and visit several different places such as Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury and Chipping Camden. We did visit over August Bank Holiday so it was mega busy and parking was limited so I would suggest trying to visit at a quieter time.

Cornwall

CORNWALL

Of course, Cornwall had to make the list. The ultimate place for a UK staycation. You can visit some of the Cornish beaches and feel like you are abroad. We spent a whole week here instead of going abroad and had the best time. There is honestly so much to do, much more than just visiting gorgeous beaches which are a plenty too! I’d say Cornwall is the UK’s number 1 destination for a motorhome staycation. However, you can encounter some teeny tiny roads when driving about which I didn’t expect.

When we visited Cornwall last year, we obviously had to hunt out some great food places. You really are spoilt for choice for award winning delicious food in Cornwall. You can see where we ate and drank in My Cornwall Food & Drink Diary.

Scotland Scotland

SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

Finally, we’re heading to Scotland and the Scottish Highlands for a road trip. The North Coast 500 is a bucket list trip and would be perfect to do in a motorhome. The 516 mile route takes you around the north coast of Scotland with some impressive sights to be seen. The possibilities of trips around Scotland are endless and it’s really all so stunning. A few years ago, I also did there North East 250 Route in Aberdeenshire which was amazing and a great trip for something a little shorter. The Scottish coastline is seriously overlooked and would provide a gorgeous backdrop for a motorhome staycation.

Would you consider a motorhome staycation?

XOXO
