The Sunday Roast Diaries: Trof, Manchester

Sunday Roast Diaries: Trof, Manchester

I’m back with another instalment of The Sunday Roast Diaries! A couple of weeks ago, Stefan and I took a little day trip over to Manchester as we had tickets to see One Republic. The concert was incredible, Ryan Tedder is insanely talented. However, given that it was a Sunday; it would have been rude not to go for a Sunday Roast! After asking a couple of Manchester locals, it seemed like the place to visit was Trof in the Northern Quarter.

Trof is located on Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter. Whilst we booked a table, I think they do take the odd walk in too. We arrived earlier than our reservations but they were super accommodating and got us seated immediately. It’s quite a small area around the bar but we found that they had more dining rooms upstairs and a rooftop terrace. It kept going on and on.

Trof is actually a bourbon bar but it seems they are pretty famous for their roasts and brunches! The Sunday Roasts are served between 12pm and 9pm so perfect if you are looking for a late afternoon or evening roast as I feel like they are so hard to come by. The menu included starters such as buffalo chicken wings, Korean fried chicken and mushroom empanadas. However, we went straight in for the Sunday Roast.

Stefan and I both ordered the topside of beef. Chicken Breast, Crispy Pork, Roast Lamb and a vegan option of beet & pumpkin wellington was also on offer. The roasts were served with seasonal veg, crispy roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and gravy. We also did order sides of cauliflower cheese and miso mash potato. First of all the beef was cooked wonderfully, I was really impressed. I wasn’t completely enthralled by the seasonal veg as I’m not the biggest swede fan. However I felt the rest of the meal compensated for it. The roasties were so crispy and honestly 10/10.

As I said we did get Cauliflower Cheese as a side and Stefan proclaimed that it was the best he’s ever had. The miso mash potato was a great twist on mash and we both really enjoyed that too. Top marks for the Yorkshire Pudding too! I can see why Trof is so highly regarded by locals! I’ve got a few other Manchester places on my list so hopefully in the next few months, I’ll be over to try out more!

Do you have any Sunday Roast recommendations for Manchester?

XOXO
