Sunday Roast Diaries: The Waterside at Chainbridge, Ruswarp
It’s time for another Sunday Roast Diaries post and I’m very excited about this one. This is possibly one of the best Sunday roasts that we have had in a long time especially in our local area. A few weekend’s ago, we visited The Waterside at Chainbridge, Ruswarp which is five minutes outside of Whitby. It’s a restaurant which has been highly recommended and we decided to go as a little treat before Stefan ‘s birthday.

As I mentioned, it’s just located outside of Whitby, but it is right on the River Esk. The weather forecast wasn’t looking the best so I did book for an indoor table However, when we got there, it was bright sunshine and blue skies and they offered us an outdoor seat which we accepted as the views were just amazing. We were sat right on the waterside and it was just stunning. We got to watch paddle boarders, kayakers and even a steam train pass by! At one point, I felt like I was on holiday. They have a huge outdoor area with an outdoor bar which it just the ultimate alfresco dining goals.

Of course, we were there to try their Sunday Roasts! We started off with an Aperol Spritz each as it was the perfect drink choice for a Sunday afternoon sitting outside. There was a delicious choice of snacks and appetisers to chose from such as parmesan beignets, oysters and caviar, steak tartare and french onion soup. We decided to jump straight into the main course. I ordered the roast sirloin and Stefan got the roast chicken. The Roasts are served with seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and then we additionally ordered a side of cauliflower cheese.

The sirloin of beef was cooked to perfection and it was a very generous thick cut of meat. The seasonal veg was a mix of carrots, cabbage and leeks. I do have to say whilst the meat was delicious, the star of the show was the Yorkshire pudding which was actually filled with some sort of pulled beef in a rich gravy. It was utterly incredible and something I’ve not really seen served anywhere before. The cauliflower cheese was also a great addition. I’ve just checked the website and Stefan’s chicken is no longer available and has been replaced with Lamb. Roast Porchetta is also available but Stefan also loved his chicken which was served with a sausage stuffing which he was also a big fan of.

I’ve got to say, I was such a big fan of our visit. We have already booked to go back again. It’s quite close to our wedding venue so I can already anticipate quite a few visits here! The one thing to mention is that they do not allow dogs. Sadly we can’t take Walter on his adventures but it’s completely understandable as it’s so close to the waterside (hence the name!). Stay tuned on my socials as I’m sure I will be posting all about our next visit too!
