Sunday Roast Diaries: Goshawk, Cheshire

The Sunday Roast Diaries are back! (Finally!) No matter where I am, I’ll always find somewhere for a Sunday Roast. Back in October, we were visiting Cheshire for the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Forest Experience and we stayed in the Northwich area. The next day we visited Cheshire Oaks for a spot of shopping before heading to The Goshawk which is located in the village of Mouldsworth and I believe it’s pretty close to Delamere Forest. It did seem like it was in the middle of nowhere but the food looked pretty great on the Goshawk website when I came to making a reservation.

The Goshawk is a former 19th-century coaching inn and is now part of the JW Lees group. We arrived and was seated in one of the dining room areas. There was quite a few different rooms and open areas around the bar. The Autumn Menu was running with lots of pub favourites but obviously we were there for one thing; a Sunday Roast. After ordering drinks, Stefan and I decided to get the sharing Sunday Platter which included all three types of meat that were on offer. To be honest, the platter only worked out as £1 more each so it seemed like an obvious choice. The Meats on the menu were Rump of British Beef, Roast Turkey Breast and the Chef’s Special which was Pork. My Mum went for the Roast Pork with a side of Pigs in Blankets.

Alongside the Sunday Roast Platter, Stefan also ordered a starter of Messy Fries which was served with our mains. The Messy fries were topped chip with cheese and pulled pork. We can all agree it was a mistake as it was quite a basic dish and certainly wasn’t necessary with all the other food we had. Shockingly, he did polish it off.

The Sunday Roast Platter was a pretty huge portion of food. The trio of meats was served with a selection of vegetables including red cabbage, broccoli, swede and mash potato. We also got a portion of cauliflower cheese and a few pigs in blankets. Honestly, there was so much food and the quality was pretty good too! I was really impressed with the platter. The Yorkshire Puddings were cooked to perfection and the Rump of Beef was spot on for my liking.

My Mum was also with us and she just got a regular Sunday Roast with the chef’s special of Pork and a side of pigs in blankets. You can see from the photos that the pigs in blankets were looking a little bit naked! They didn’t taste bad but they could’ve been presented a little bit better.

The Goshawk was a lovely little pub and i’m glad we came across it as I was a big fan of the Sunday Roast Platter. Previously, we’ve enjoyed platters at Hare & Hounds, Bath, BAHA Windermere and Tomahawk, York and they really are the way forward. They tend to be a little bit cheaper than purchasing two individual meals and more food! Stay tuned as there’s going to be lot’s more Sunday Roasts Diaries blogposts coming up over the next few weeks. 2022 is the year I actually post a little more consistently.

XOXO
