Wood-Fired Afternoon Tea at Low Wood Bay

Wood-Fired Afternoon Tea at Low Wood Bay

When asking Stefan what he would like to do for his Birthday whilst we were in the Lake District, I wasn’t expecting him to say go for Afternoon Tea. However, the Afternoon Tea at the Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa isn’t your regular Afternoon Tea. The Low Wood Bay Resort is located between the town of Windermere and Ambleside with stunning views over Lake Windermere. The whole resort looked amazing, I’d certainly love to return to stay or even just use the spa! We were dining at the Blue Smoke on the Bay restaurant which specialises in dishes prepared on their Wood Fired Grill. It’s also the home to the Wood-Fired Afternoon Tea.

Due to horrendous traffic en route to the Lakes, we showed up mega late to our reservation. However the team at the Blue Smoke on the Bay restaurant were so helpful and still managed to seat us immediately. We were booked in for the Wood-Fired Afternoon Tea which is very different from your standard Afternoon Tea. Instead of finger sandwiches, you’ll find brisket sandwiches, loaded nachos and even doughnuts! It was 100% right up mine and Stefan’s alley in terms of the menu.

The Afternoon Tea was priced at £28 per person and came with a hot drink. However, I opted for the ‘Flights of Fancy’. For an additional £9, I was presented with a Prosecco Flight of four glasses. These included Pure Italian Prosecco, Prosecco Il Fresco Villa Sandi which had hints of golden apples, Prosecco Il Fresco Rose Villa Sandi and Gouguemheim Malbec Rosé. The last one was my favourite with hints of red fruits including cherries and strawberries. Given that the weather was pretty hot outside, they were also offering iced coffee. Stefan opted for an Iced Latte.

The food quickly was brought out and I’ve got to say we were spoilt for choice. The Afternoon Tea offered us Something Savory, Something Sweet and Something on the side. The Savory was Smoked Salmon, Wood-Fired Lamb Lollipops, Brisket Toasted Sandwich and Chicken Fillet Skewers. I have to say, I am still dreaming about the Chicken Fillet Skewers. The way these have been cooked on the wood-fired ovens just give them a delicious smoked taste. Whilst it said on the menu that they were Lamb Lollipops, we actually got two huge pieces of lamb. We also got two brisket sandwiches which were marinated with bourbon and blue smoke rub. Absolutely delicious.

On the side, we had a Loaded Nachos, seasoned chips and blue smoke slow. The loaded nachos were served with guacamole and there was also two dips; one being ketchup and I think the other was garlic mayo and it delicious. As you can imagine, there was more than enough food for the two of us before even moving onto the sweet stuff. Everything was so yummy and we had no issues. I’m sure it’s not hard to believe we polished the lot off before checking out the Something Sweet.

We both had a blueberry scone served with strawberry jam and clotted cream. We also got chocolate brownies, mini Sicilian lemon meringue and doughnuts to dip into white chocolate. Of course, the doughnuts were an absolute highlight for me. There was two of everything and really there was just so much food overall and all so delicious. Usually when I go for Afternoon Tea, I’m all about the sweet stuff but I’ve got to say the Savory stuff here was the winner.

I know this is an alternative Afternoon Tea so it doesn’t seem right to fully compare it to ones with finger sandwiches but this seriously was one of the Best Afternoon Teas we have had. The price being £28 was extremely reasonable given how much food we had and the quality of it all and the brilliant service. I also think the flight of Prosecco was very well priced. We would certainly consider going back in the future. The Blue Smoke on the Bay Restaurant looked like it had an amazing Dinner menu with steak being a prime option.

Would you have this alternative Afternoon Tea?

XOXO
