Sunday Roast Diaries: Tomahawk Steakhouse, York

I’m so excited about sharing this week’s Sunday Roast Diaries blog post. A few weeks ago, we went across to York to visit one of the latest restaurant openings in the city. Tomahawk Steakhouse opened at the end of August and immediately I wanted to visit after hearing about their Sharing Sunday Roast Board. The new restaurant is located down by Lendal Cellars. If you’re familiar with York – it’s where Jamie’s Italian used to be. There are a few Tomahawk locations in the North East and not too long before this trip I’d visited the Beverly branch for lunch. At the moment, I’d certainly say that booking ahead is essential. This restaurant is HUGE, it just keeps going and going. It was booming on the Sunday afternoon that we visited. Prior to our visit, I’d already decided that we were going to go for the Sharing Sunday Roast Board which is £16.95 per person. For an individual roast, it varies between £13.50 and £14.95. The Sharer Platter comes with all three types of meat; Marinated Chicken, Pork Belly and Wagyu Topside Beef. Alongside the platter, we ordered a side of creamy mash potato and an extra Yorkshire Pudding.

It wasn’t long before our sharing board arrived and it was pretty spectacular. Alongside the three meats, we had a Yorkshire Pudding each, Beef Dripping Roasties, Carrots, Parsnips, Cauliflower Cheese and our own little gravy. Everything on each side was equal for one another so we didn’t end up fighting over the platter. The Beef especially was delicious and the choice on the platter couldn’t be faulted. I also have to mention that the Yorkshire pudding was a good one! It certainly got my stamp of approval.

We did have to wait a little while for our Red Cabbage and Greens to arrive and we also had to remind the server twice about our sides. When the sides eventually arrived, we had just about finished our lunch which was a bit disappointing. The Creamy Mash was piping hot and bubbling away as if it had just been reheated.  I think you kind of see in the photo that it wasn’t the most appetising looking item.

I genuinely did think that the Tomahawk Roast Platter was amazing, we were spoilt for choice in terms of veg and the meat was delicious. Sadly the service with the sides let us down a little bit and left us a little bit let down. I would love to visit again though as the platter was pretty amazing but I think we would forget about the sides. Don’t forget to follow me over on Instagram, where I do share my Sunday Roasts every Sunday!

XOXO

  1. I need this both in my life and my belly! I’m not generally onboard with ‘sharing’ foods (who does that!) but I need this.
Shame about the service. maybe put it to new staff or an off day, as well, the food kinda makes up for it?!
