Sunday Roast Diaries: The Porch House, Stow-On-The-Wold
At the end of August, we spent a lovely couple of days in The Cotswolds for my Birthday. We actually stayed in Cheltenham but drove around some of the gorgeous villages in The Cotswolds. It was only inevitable that would try and hunt down one of the best Sunday Roasts in the area. Haydy from Squibbvicious sent me across some great foodie places and The Porch House was on the list and certainly caught my eye.

The Porch House is located in Stow-On-The-Wold which is a gorgeous little village with some lovely little shops and a few typical English pubs. For visiting Stow-On-The-Wold, there is parking in the main square but obviously, it was super busy. The best option is to park next to the big Tesco and there are a free visitor car park and a short walk to the main area of the village.

The Porch House is actually known for being one the oldest inns in England, whether that’s true I don’t know! We actually ended up being late for our booking (but we did ring ahead!) as the traffic around The Cotswolds was insane. It was Bank Holiday but the people we spoke to had never seen it that busy. Thankfully, the pub was really understanding and we were quickly shown to our table. The pub is a very oldie worldy sort of place with original stone flooring and low ceilings. Although, there was also a very modern conservatory area towards with back. I’m glad we were in the old and more traditional part.

Let’s get on to the food part. So obviously we were there for the Sunday Roast but they did have a large extensive lunch menu which was also very tempting. There was all sorts of dishes available but Stefan and I both went for the Roast Beef. The Roasted Native Breed Dry Aged Sirloin Beef was £17.95 and served with a selection of veggies and a big Yorkshire pudding. The food was served pretty quickly and it looked amazing. The Roast Beef came with glazed carrots and parsnips (which I think they should always be honey glazed), steamed green beans and fat roasted potatoes. It was also served with this little thing which I wasn’t sure what it was. It looked like a breaded stuffing ball but I think it had like well-done pulled beef inside. I wasn’t too sure what I thought of it, to be honest.
The Yorkshire Pudding was a good one. I think the best thing since doing these Sunday Roast Diaries is that I haven’t really had a bad Yorkshire Pudding so far which is always a good thing. I do choose places on how their Yorkie Puds look on Instagram though!
We did really enjoy our Sunday Lunch at The Porch House. The portion size wasn’t small at all but I just didn’t find it that filling, especially for the price. Maybe it was just us always being hungry! We did think the food was really delicious though and it was a lovely traditional pub and I’d say well worth a visit if you’re in Stow-on-the-Wold.
I do have quite a few more Sunday Roast Diaries posts scheduled over the next couple of weeks but I’m hoping we will still be able to visit a few more before restrictions potentially get tighter. We are potentially going to our favourite Sunday Roast place next week, fingers crossed!
XOXO
