Sunday Roast Diaries: Hawksmoor, Edinburgh

It’s another exciting week in The Sunday Roast Diaries. I’m going to be talking about mine and Stefan’s favourite place for a roast. The focus of this week’s Sunday Roast Diaries is Hawksmoor, Edinburgh. It’s quite rare that we get the chance to visit Hawksmoor as they are located in several locations across London, Manchester and Edinburgh. However, the last two weekends we have gone to Hawksmoor in both Edinburgh and Manchester. Both experiences were fantastic but I’m going to focus today’s post on the Edinburgh visit.

We finished off our big Scottish Roadtrip in Edinburgh and before we drove back home, we had a lovely Sunday Roast at Hawksmoor. The restaurant is located just off St.Andrews Square in a very impressive building which reminds me of an old post office or bank. We had also visited Hawksmoor last year on our last visit to Edinburgh and we were just blown away. Hawksmoor specialises in Steak and Seafood and you’re getting the best quality here. We’ve never actually tried the steak at Hawksmoor but I’m sure it wouldn’t disappoint.

We were there for the Sunday Roast which the Slow Roast Rump is £20pp or you can get a Slow Roast Prime Rib for between 2-3 people for £80. Stefan and I both went for the Slow Roast Rump each. We did want a side of Mash as it was incredible when we had it last year but Hawksmoor was running on a limited menu (there was still plenty of choice) and Mash was one of the things not on the menu. However, it reappeared on the menu the day before our visit to Manchester which was a miracle. 100% would recommend the side of Mash (with gravy!).

Our Beef roasts came very swiftly to the table served with all the trimmings. We had the most incredible carrots, served with the fluffiest roast potatoes and cabbage. Additionally, we had roasted shallots and garlic which were served with a little pot of bone marrow and onion gravy. We had our Beef cooked through but you can also have it served pink and you just taste the quality. It’s honestly cooked to perfection. The carrots must be honey glazed because they were just unbelievable, alongside the roasties which were ever so fluffy inside.  The Roasted Shallots and Garlic are a welcomed addition to the plate, adding that extra bit of flavour.

The roast is on the pricey side but you can really taste the quality. I can’t fault the meal at all, aside from maybe needing a bit more gravy and obviously, mash. Stefan and I are both in agreement that Hawksmoor is our favourite Roast we’ve tried. It’s a great visit for a special location, a birthday or just treating yourself. Like we did, two weeks in a row. I also wanted to mention that the standard at Manchester was just the same. Amazing service and incredible food. We even joked with one of the girls that we would need to visit the London ones and do a Hawksmoor tour! The last photo above was from our meal at Manchester, which you can see looks incredible. There’s no doubt that we will be back whenever we are next in Manchester/Edinburgh/London.

Have you ever been to Hawksmoor?

XOXO
