Berlin seems such a long time ago now, it’s been nearly five months! 2018 is just flying by – it will be soon Christmas. I did previously say that I’d be doing a Berlin Food Diary but in the end, I’ve chosen three places I ate at in Berlin which I absolutely loved. They aren’t the most typical German establishments but all three are all must visits and incredibly delicious!
First up is a restaurant which we visited on our first night in the city. I’d heard about The Bird from Haydy who had recommended it to me and I’d heard it was one of the best places for burgers in Berlin so already I had pretty high expectations. The Bird is a New York styled bar and restaurant which specialises in burgers which are served in an English breakfast muffin and steaks. I’ve got to say the burgers were pretty damn good but it was the hand-cut fries which blew me away.
Am Falkplatz 5
I’m always on the hunt for a great pizza and Zola in the Kreuzberg neighbourhood which is right on the Landwehr Canal popping up. Zola was also in my famous pizza bible which has the best pizzerias from all around the world so I knew it would be good. Zola opened up in 2015 and specializes in Neapolitan style pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven.
On arrival, we were told there would be a little wait as it was prime time and pretty busy but we were soon sat down. We both ordered a classic Margherita which cost us €8 each. The pizza came and it was utterly delicious and definitely up there with one of the best pizzas I’ve had. For pizza lovers like myself, I’d definitely recommend a visit to Zola Pizza in Berlin.
Yes, We’ve got another burger joint on the list. Burgermeister is another must visit in my eyes. Believe it or not, Burgermeister is located in an old subway public bathrooms in Kreuzberg. Sounds kinda gross, right?! but it’s not! Burgermeister is a takeaway place but has a few spots you can perch and eat and outdoor seating in Summer. There was quite a long line when we went but it was so worth it. I would actually compare this place to In-N-out, not as good but on the same sort of page and really tasty.
U1 Schlesisches Tor
There was actually a few ice cream places in Berlin that I really wanted to visit but with the weather been minus 17, it was kind of off-putting. I know eating Burgers and Pizza isn’t *that* adventurous but all three places were amazing and well worth visiting in my opinion. ZOLA Pizza certainly made it into the top five in my quest for the all-time greatest pizza place.
Have you been to Berlin? Wheres the best pizza you’ve ever had?
