Supporting Local Businesses on the Yorkshire Coast during Lockdown 2.0

We’re now back in Lockdown 2.0 and lot’s of businesses have unfortunately had to close their doors or adapt to the new normal  I thought I’d put together a post for the Yorkshire Coast and ways you can still support local businesses. A lot of eateries and café’s are still serving takeaways so I thought I would share a few places alongside some other great initiatives on how you can shop local and support small businesses. I’m mainly focusing on the Scarborough area but there are a few notable mentions in Filey too.

Takeaway

I’m so pleased that so many places are still doing takeaways so I can enjoy some of my favourite restaurants from the comfort of my own home. It’s great to see restaurants adapting and continuing to cook delicious dishes.

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, The Cowshed

Cowshed, st.Thomas street

The best Burgers on the Yorkshire Coast are offering a takeaway service between Thursday and Sundays and it’s collection only. Orders can be placed over the phone or on their Facebook page via messenger. We’ve ordered one for this weekend and I’m too excited for all the onion strings – they are the best!

florios, Aberdeen walk

Who doesn’t love a good Florios!? You can enjoy their famous GBT and a range of their pizza and pasta dishes from the comfort of your own home. Florios is open for takeaways to be collected from 4:30pm until 8pm – 7 days a week.

The boat shed, filey

I’ve been wanting to try The Boat Shed in Filey for ages but it’s so hard to get a table there. The Boat Shed specialises in Pizza and Gin, so my kinda place. They are currently doing Takeaways, Deliveries and at home make your own pizza kits between Tuesdays and Sundays. I’m not too sure how far they deliver but you can order online via their website here.

the cockpit, Eastborough

The Cockpit is a brand new restaurant in Scarborough and sadly they hadn’t been open long before the new restrictions. The food does look pretty amazing with a range of chicken dishes. I’ve seen so many people raving about the food online. They are currently doing takeaways every day except Mondays between 4pm and 9pm. Either message them via their Facebook page or give them a ring!

orchard events, Scarborough

Another company which I have seen pop up on Facebook is Orchard Events who are offering three-course meals every week for just £15! I believe it’s a catering company who have had to adapt to the current situation. Their menus change every weekend and they are delivered straight to your door.

Baked goods

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, Bloom

bloom, falsgrave

I can’t believe I’ve still not visited Bloom on Falsgrave yet but luckily they are now offering a collection and delivery service with their treats boxes. They do everything from brownies, scones, cookies to cakes. I’m certainly going to be picking up one of their cookie boxes for £10 as they are NYC style and just look incredible. You can get them delivered to your door or pick up from the cafe and orders are done through their website here.

dahlia bakery, ramshill road

Another bakery which has caught my eye on social media is Dahlia which is on Ramshill Road. I believe this is a pretty new place which has opened and oh my goodness, everything looks so delicious. They do freshly baked bread, tasty treats such as brownies and cakes as well as sandwiches and soups. Dahlia is open Wednesday to Saturday 9am-4pm and I think I’m going to have to pay a visit this weekend!

Love Brew, Eastborough

Love Brew is currently offering a takeaway service from their cafe on Eastborough. They are a Vegan cafe so most of their treat boxes which you can order are vegan such as their Donut and Brownie Boxes. They look so delicious! Love Brew has also just introduced a limited delivery service within Scarborough on Thursdays but otherwise, you can collect from the cafe. You can order online through their website here.

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, The Yew Tree

the yew tree, scalby

The Yew Tree is also doing treat boxes filled with cakes, blondies and brownies. They are £8 for four, £12 for 6 and £16 for 8. They are also doing a full takeaway menu which you can view on their Facebook page and includes afternoon tea, sandwiches, lunch and breakfasts. The Yew Tree is open for takeaways between Thursday and Sunday 10am – 2pm. To order either give them a ring or message via their social media.

Grab a coffee
Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, Olivers on the Mount
Olivers on the Mount, Olivers Mount

Last weekend, we actually paid a visit to Olivers on the Mount. It’s a favourite of mine and at the moment they’ve set up a little hut outside the restaurant serving breakfast baps, toasted sandwiches and soups. We popped up there for a sandwich and milkshake but it’s a lovely spot to visit for a coffee and you’ve obviously got the best view in Scarborough for a backdrop. They’ve also just put up their incredible Christmas decorations and are raising money for St.Catherines Hospice.

ESPRESSO YOURSELF, FALCONERS ROAD

Local favourite Espresso Yourself have been serving takeaway coffees, sandwiches and soups during lockdown 2.0. We visit Espresso Yourself quite a lot as it’s a family favourite and always do great coffees. They are currently open between Wednesday and Sunday between 10am and 2pm – It’s worth stopping by for a takeaway drink on your daily exercise.

Koda, Northway

Another favourite of mine is Koda Coffee on Northway. I’ve had a few visits here but I’m particularly fond of their seasonal offerings. At the moment, they are running on a takeaway basis with some insane things on the menu from sandwiches, bao buns and acai bowls. Their new menu has just been released on their Facebook and is worth checking out.

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, Sh-ka Coffee House

Sha-Ka Coffee House, York Place

Sha-Ka Coffee House is a brand new addition to the coffee scene in Scarborough. I don’t think they were open too long before lockdown 2.0 kicked in. This place is totally unique as it’s serving Hawaiin inspired dishes and along with delicious cakes and coffee. I spotted some Red Velvet Cake which I need to try on their Facebook page. Sha-Ka is open Wednesday to Sunday with their takeaway service.

Scarborough Market Hall

Scarborough Market Hall is mostly open for the essential stalls such as Fresh Fruit & Veg, The Butchers and Fish Mongers. Solange Bakery and Deli Delicious are still open and both operating on a takeaway and delivery basis. It’s always great to support these kinds of businesses in the market but it’s so important now more than ever. It would also be worth checking out whether you could get your groceries or meat delivered to you as this might be a service offered too!

Sunday Roast

We all know I love a good Sunday Roast. Have no fear, the Sunday Roast Diaries are still alive as thankfully there are plenty of places in the area offering Takeaways Sunday Roasts. I’m going to try out a few mentioned below but this weekend, I’m actually going to try and make my own!

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, Foulsyke Farmhouse

Foulsyke Farmhouse & bistro, scalby

Our first takeaway Sunday Roast was from Foulsyke Farmhouse & Bistro in Scalby. It’s our favourite place in Scarborough for a roast so we were so excited that they were doing takeaways. They are also doing deliveries but we opted for collection. A Sunday Roast is £12.50pp and comes with their insane giant Yorkshire Puddings, a whole range of vegetables and a pot of gravy each. We were really impressed but I’m going to do a full review soon.

Clarks, Queen Street

Clarks of Queen Street is also offering a Sunday Roast and they are £10 per person. The roasts are delivered to your door and you need to order via e-mail or telephone by 3pm the Saturday before. They are only offering Beef at the moment but it sounds delicious! Clark’s are also doing Signature Takeaway Menu Box for Friday and Saturday Evenings for £25 per box (for two people).

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, The Copper Horse

The Copper Horse, Seamer

The Copper Horse in Seamer are offering a full takeaway menu every Sunday between 12pm-5pm. The Sunday Menu which you can view on their Facebook page includes dishes like Fish and Chips, Veggie Pie and of course, a Sunday Roast. Depending what meat you go for (you can also get mixed meat plate), the roasts are priced between £12 and £14. You can order via telephone or the HQ Hospitality App.

The Green Room, Victoria Road

Another place I really want to try for their Sunday Roasts is Green Room on Victoria Road. They also have a regular takeaway menu which they are running Wednesday through Saturday. The Sunday menu is £15 for three courses per person and delivered to your door. The menu does sound great and even better that you’re getting a starter and dessert too! You can also add a patisserie box for an additional £10. The Roasts are either Beef, Pork or Chicken and all are served with a Yorkshire Pudding and seasonal veg.

Supporting Yorkshire Coast Businesses, The Hideout

Gift vouchers

Not everywhere has opened or can open during Lockdown 2.0 and one way to support these local businesses are to buy Gift Vouchers. They would also make a great present. At the moment, The Hideout is offering a slight discount on their Gift Vouchers so you’re even saving money! They aren’t currently open so it’s a great way to support them in their absence.  You can also enquire about Gift Vouchers from your local hairdressers and beautician as at the moment they can’t open so it’s a great way to support them too.

The Scarborough gift card

Finally, I wanted to mention the Scarborough Gift Card. This is a newly released Gift Card which can be purchased online here and can be used in over 40 local businesses in the Scarborough area. It’s a great way to support local businesses in these tough times and you know that your money will be spent locally. The businesses include small independent retailers, national retailers, eateries and even the Stephen Joseph Theatre. It would also make an excellent Christmas present for your loved ones!

Hopefully, I’ve given you a little bit of inspiration about where is still doing takeaways, deliveries or how you can support local businesses during these tough times. I’ll be sharing a few more Sunday Roast Diaries post – Takeout Edition very soon!

XOXO
