Christmas Movies I’ve been Watching 2020

I’ve been ever so busy these last couple of weeks watching ALL the Christmas movies. Netflix has a HUGE selection of cheesy Christmas movies and I thought I would go through them all and just let you know my thoughts. I’m also planning to watch a few more this weekend so there might even be a part 2 to this. When we can’t be outside visiting Christmas markets, drinking mulled wine with friends, Christmas movies are just about the only thing I’m clinging on to make myself feel festive. I’ve not included the classics which I have also been watching, just the newish and also Netflix cheese-fest ones!

The Christmas Chronicles 1&2

The first Christmas Chronicles movie was released back in 2018 on Netflix but the sequel has now arrived. I’ve watched both of them so I thought I’d do a little round-up. The first movie follows Katie and her Brother who try and catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on Christmas Eve before embarking on an insane adventure. It’s such a magical and festive movie, it reminds me of a modern-day Santa Claus: The Movie. 8/10

The newly released Christmas Chronicles 2 follows Kate to the North Pole on another adventure with Santa. Personally, I didn’t think it was as good as the first one but I loved seeing the North Pole and Santa’s Village. You also get to see Mrs Claus who is played by Goldie Hawn (Kurt Russell’s actual wife & Kate Hudson’s Mum!) and she’s amazing in it. Both movies would make a great addition to a Festive Movie Afternoon, also a great family movie too. 9/10

Last Christmas

We watched Last Christmas last night, it’s currently available on Sky Movies and NowTV. Last Christmas was released last year and is based on the song & also features loads of other George Michael songs. The movie follows Kate (Emilia Clarke) who’s kinda spiralling whilst working as an Elf in Covent Garden, the story follows her meeting a guy called Tom. It’s quite a lovely movie but it has a HUGE twist. I’d definitely recommend watching if you love a good Festive Rom-Com. 9/10

Noelle

This is quite possibly my favourite Festive discovery this year. Noelle is a newly released movie on Disney+ starring one of my favourite Actresses; Anna Kendrick. Her Character Noelle is actually the daughter of Santa Claus and is full of Christmas cheer. When Santa sadly passes away, the responsibilities lie with her Brother who isn’t full of Christmas cheer at all and he runs away into the real world aka Pheonix, Arizona. Can Noelle save Christmas? Definitely a must-watch this Christmas! 9/10

Holidate

I think The Holidate was one of the first festive movies I watched this year. I was released on Netflix in November and features Emma Roberts as the lead. It’s not completely a Christmas movie as it actually includes all Holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, July 4th & Halloween. Emma Roberts’ character, Sloane finds a “Holidate” in Jackson who have a platonic relationship and use each other as plus one’s to holiday functions. As you can imagine, things don’t stay platonic. I’m actually a big fan of this movie, it’s an easy watch and I may even watch it again this festive season. 8/10

The Princess Switch 1&2

Another movie to come out with a sequel on Netflix is The Princess Switch. Now, this is where we are getting into the pure cheese territory. The Princess Switch stars Vanessa Hudgens who actually plays two characters. It follows a dutchess who is set to marry a prince and a baker from Chicago who switches places. The baker is visiting Belgravia (no idea where they get these imaginary places from) to enter a cake competition where she meets the Dutchess who looks exactly the same. It’s a complete cheese-fest and I kinda loved it. 7/10

The sequel, on the other hand, I wasn’t a huge fan of. The Princess Switch 2 adds in a THIRD lookalike who tries to steal the crown. These storylines are very far fetched but this one was on another level. One I probably won’t be watching again. 4/10

The Christmas Prince 1,2&3

Another similar movie is The Christmas Prince which has the Sequels; A Royal Wedding & A Royal Baby. I’ve combined all three movies as I watched them all in one go. It follows the story of a journalist called Amber who gets sent to Aldovia to get the royal scoop and ends up falling for the Prince. There are lots of twists and turns, it’s pure cheese but I kinda liked all three movies! 6/10

Christmas Made to Order

Christmas Made to Order was one that kept getting pushed on the Netflix homepage. I believe it’s originally from the Hallmark Channel and follows a professional Christmas Decorator who has been hired by Steven who unexpectedly has ended up hosting Christmas for his family. Gretchen goes from decorating Stevens house to becoming a full-time Christmas Co-ordinator for all the family. It was quite a random storyline but an easy watch. I wouldn’t say it’s a must-see though. 4/10

Christmas Wonderland

The main attraction to this movie? It’s got Lily from Hannah Montana in it! I really enjoyed Christmas Wonderland and I think it’s certainly underrated on Netflix. The movie follows Heidi who returns to her hometown to look after her niece and nephew and she ends up bumping into her High School Sweetheart. The storyline is predictable but I really did enjoy it. 6.5/10

Holiday in the Wild

I had high hopes for Holiday in the Wild as it has Kristin Davis from SATC fame and Rob Lowe as the leading cast. It’s about Kate embarking her “second honeymoon” on safari solo after breaking up with her husband and basically she ends up staying out there helping in an elephant sanctuary. She finds herself and also ends up close to Rob Lowe’s character. It’s not very festive, to be honest, and I wasn’t completely blown away by it. 3/10

Dash & Lily

Although this isn’t a movie, I wanted to include Dash & Lily which is a limited series on Netflix. Naturally, I watched it all in one go. Dash & Lily shows off New York at Christmas wonderfully. The story follows Dash & Lily who have never met but communicate through a notebook found in a bookstore. The Notebook is passed through different locations around New York at Christmas. It’s just a really lovely story and the episodes aren’t too long so you don’t have to watch it all in one go like me. It’ll have you wanting to book an NYC trip at Christmas too! 8/10

As I’ve said I’m planning to watch a few more before Christmas Day so I might do a part two of these posts. Movies on the list are Jingle Jangle, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square, Home for Christmas, Klaus, Operation Christmas Drop and A California Christmas. So not too many to get through in a few days! Haha! Don’t forget to check out my Festive Gift Guides if you’re still stuck on Christmas shopping!

Let me know below if you’ve been watching any Festive Movies? Which are your favourites?

XOXO
