Sunday Roast Diaries: Lucia Wine Bar & Grill, York

Another week, another instalment of The Sunday Roast Diaries. Today I’m talking all about our visit a couple of weeks ago to Lucia Wine Bar & Grill in York. This place has been on my list of places to visit for the longest time and once lockdown was eased we got ourselves booked in. Lucia is a gorgeous little restaurant in the heart of York on Swinegate. The restaurant is pretty huge with a bar area, restaurant and outdoor seating. I think we were in the bar area which had recently been renovated earlier this year with a pink tropical vibe.

Lucia actually serves predominantly Italian food and cocktails but we were there for the Sunday Roast. After we were seated, we were told about some of the new changes that had come in to place in the restaurant. Protective screens had been placed between tables and we had the QR code to scan on our table to view the menu. QR codes are pretty common in restaurants now for track and trace forms and to view menus.

We did nearly face a problem when the waitress thought they had stopped serving Sunday Roasts. We were booked mid-afternoon and online it said they were available until 6pm. Thankfully after she double-checked with the kitchen we had our Beef Sunday Roasts ordered. I also decided to order the Violet Dream Cocktail which had Violet Gin and lavender syrup! It was a short cocktail so only lasted a few sipped but it tasted lovely! Stefan went for the Tutti Frutti Mocktail as he was driving which also was delicious but was also gone in a few sips. I would’ve have thought the mocktails would have been longer drinks.

It wasn’t long until our eagerly anticipated Sunday Roast arrived. I’m not going to lie, I had previously seen them on Instagram which swayed my decision to book in here and they didn’t disappoint. The Beef Roast dinner cost £14.95 and was served with a selection of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. Half a roast chicken, pork belly and veggie sausages were also available. Let me tell you, the beef was cooked to perfection! The vegetables including roasties, parsnips, broccoli and carrots and it was a decent portion size. The star of the show was certainly the beef though, full of flavour and served drenched in gravy.

We had a lovely experience at Lucia. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful – the decor was certainly Instagram heaven. I’d definitely love to go back to Lucia’s and potentially try their Italian dishes as there are some delicious sounding meals on the menu. It’s a lovely place to dine outside too with the courtyard offering lots of outdoor seating. One thing is for sure, we will be back soon! It’s also worth noting that Lucia is taking part in the Eat out to Help out scheme. You can find 32 places to eat out to help out in York and 62 places to eat out to help out on the Yorkshire Coast in my latest blog posts.

  1. Oh wow, this place looks amazing! I was looking to visit York sometime soon, so I’ll have to note Lucia down for somewhere for us to visit. The food looks incredible, but totally with you on that you’d expect the mocktails to be a larger drink xx
