Sunday Roast Diaries: The Black Friar, Salford
It’s time for another Sunday Roast Diaries blog post. I’m actually buzzing with the few that I’ve visited already this year. A few weeks ago, I was in Manchester for the Brit Awards, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to try somewhere new with my mum. I decided to book into The Black Friar in Salford. I’ve heard about it a few times, and it came highly recommended by my bestie, who lived in Manchester.
The Black Friar is a short walk from Manchester City Centre. It took about ten minutes from Selfridges and is located in Salford. It actually looks like a very traditional pub from the outside, but they have a very modern glass conservatory building at the back. I’ve also heard they have the most insane Christmas decorations, so I’ll have to come back in December!

It’s worth mentioning that you need to have a table booked, as it was full and we struggled getting a reservation about two weeks before. We were seated in the back, but not quite the conservatory we saw from outside, but it was all very modern.

As always, we were there for one thing and one thing only. The Sunday Roast. The options on the menu were Roast Beef, Chicken or a Veggie Roast. This was priced at £32 for two courses or £39 for three courses. We actually only had one course, and I can’t remember how much it cost! Terrible journalistic skills on my part!

I went for the Roast Beef, which is my go-to 95% of the time. The reason I usually do this, aside from it being my top choice, I feel like I can compare and review it better being the same meat. When ordering we were asked if we wanted it pink or well done, which actually influenced my mum to change from chicken to beef as she presumed it would be pink only. Is anyone else’s mum the same with wanting beef well done?! Although I went for pink, I do have to say it was very pink.

The Roast Beef was served with the crispiest roast potatoes, buttered mash, greens, red cabbage and carrots. I do have to say my mum got broccoli, and I didn’t. We also got a side dish of cauliflower cheese included, which was a nice surprise. There was a lot of variety of veg to complement the meal, and it was really delicious. The mashed potato was a highlight, and I’m sure Stefan would’ve been seething to have missed out.

Considering I was snorting at my mum ordering the beef well done, I low-key wish I’d done the same, as it was just a little too pink for my liking. Overall, it was a stunning Sunday roast. I don’t think it’s the best I’ve had in Manchester, but still top quality and a gorgeous setting. I would really like to go back, though, especially around the festive season, to see the amazing decorations.
XOXO
