Sunday Roast Diaries: Grantley Arms, Ripon

Sunday Roast Diaries: Grantley Arms, Ripon

In this edition of The Sunday Roast Diaries, we visited Grantley Arms, near Ripon. Brought to you by Grantley Hall, The Grantley Arms recently opened down the road from the 5-star luxury hotel. Located in the actual village of Grantley, it’s a 17th-century stone building, giving traditional country pub vibes, but with the exceptional service and food Grantley is known for. Ever since Grantley Arms opened in August, I knew I wanted to give it a try. Especially for their Sunday Roast.

It’s also worth noting that Grantley Arms is dog-friendly, and on arrival,  we were greeted with open arms. Walter was treated like an absolute prince. Every staff member must have known his name, even though he was a tad shy and hiding from everyone. Along with a few treats, he was given a lot of love. We were quickly seated, and the interior was very much traditional cosy pub vibes with rustic beams, a roaring fireplace, and tasteful touches that nod to its heritage.

Obviously, the cocktail menu was calling my name, and I had to order an Aperol Spritz. We also ordered some freshly baked bread, which was served with Ampersand Dairy and Bovril Butter. I don’t think I’ve ever had Bovril before, and I quite liked it. The bread came warm out of the oven and was a great way to start off the meal.

Both Stefan and I ordered the Beef Ribeye Sunday Roast, which was priced at £34, alongside a side of Montgomery Cheddar Cauliflower Cheese, which was £6. The Beef Ribeye was served pink alongside roast and mashed potatoes, swede, buttered greens and a Yorkshire Pudding. I’ve got to say the Beef Ribeye was incredible, cooked to perfection, and it just melted in the mouth. Personally, though, the roast potatoes were the star of the show for me. Unbelievably crispy yet fluffy in the middle. Some of the best roast potatoes I’ve ever had. The other standout for me was the cauliflower cheese, which was so delicious! I’m really glad we ordered that as a side and would urge you to do the same!

I’m not overly keen on the swede and would’ve preferred roasted carrots, but that’s my own personal preference. But honestly, everything else in the meal was 10/10. The Yorkshire puddings were great too, and we were offered more gravy, which is always extra marks in our book. The portions were pretty big, and we were left feeling pretty full and satisfied. I just wish I had room for dessert.  Sticky Toffee Pudding, Mulled Plum Trifle and a Farmhouse cheese plate were on the menu. Alongside a Chocolate fondant served with raspberries and clotted cream which sounds right up my street. It’s certainly the perfect excuse to go back!

This is actually the most expensive Sunday Roast we have tried during Sunday Roast Diaries, but was it worth it? Absolutely! The service was second to none, and the food was impeccable. We’ve already discussed visiting again, as it really was just an amazing experience. All the staff were so attentive and offered advice on the dishes. The Sunday Roast was incredible and up there with being one of the best. I also loved that it was dog-friendly, and Walter also got the 5* experience. I just wish we lived closer, but hopefully we will be back in the New Year!
