Sunday Roast Diaries: Whitelock’s, Leeds
The Sunday Roast Diaries are back! After a pretty long interlude, we are back! I’ve got a few lined up for you this month and since the lockdown rules were slightly lifted on July 4th, we have been for a few stunning Sunday Roasts. It was probably one of the things I missed the most during lockdown; eating out and especially eating a banging Sunday Roast. Last weekend, we were in Leeds for our first post-lockdown overnight stay to celebrate Stefan’s Birthday. After asking for a few recommendations on the best Sunday Roasts, it was clear that one was the local’s favourite; Whitelock’s.

Whitelock’s is located just off the main shopping street, Briggate and down a little alleyway. The rustic pub is next door to their sister site of the Turk’s Head which offers outdoor seating. I also thought me writing these posts would be quite helpful for people wanting to dine out and not really knowing the full COVID protocol. I had booked our table a few weeks in advance online. Once confirmed I was e-mailed some instructions about their one-way entry system from Briggate. When we arrived, we were greeted by a few members of staff who double-checked out booking, told us to hand sanitize before taking us directly to our seats.

We were on a little table completely distanced by ourselves and was given one-use menus. The main difference in service at pubs now is that everything is table service. We quickly had our drinks order taken from our table – We both went for the Slingsby Rhubarb Gin and Lemonades as we were on a bit of a Gin Trail around Leeds that day. The Menu at Whitelock’s all sounded so amazing with main’s such as Burgers and Fish and Chips but Stefan and I were there for one thing only and that was the Roast Dinners! We both went for the Beef Roast because we had seen it on Instagram and it looked amazing. The Beef Roast was priced at £13.50 and was served pink with a selection of veggies.

I wouldn’t say the Beef was served super pink but it was just right. The selection of veggies layed under the meat and GIANT Yorkshire Pudding and we had carrots, cabbage, roasties and I think there was also the odd parsnip too! The beef was cooked to perfection and also the Yorkshire Pudding was pretty much the star of the show. It was huge! I really enjoyed the meal, I’d maybe say to have a few more veggies on the plate as we weren’t completely full after the meal. We probably should’ve followed up with a dessert especially as they were serving our faves Northern Bloc ice cream but we did have other dinner plans later on so decided to save ourselves. More on our other foodie adventures in another post!

The Sunday Roast game is pretty insane in Leeds. There are so many incredible places I want to try but I can tell why Whitelock’s has got this reputation of being a favourite amongst locals. Hopefully, we will be able to try a few others soon. However, I do have some more Sunday Roast Diaries coming your way. It’s good to be back and it’s good to be eating out and trying ALL the Yorkie puds!
