Food: Afternoon Tea at Claridges

May 8, 2014
If you follow me on social media you’ll know a couple of weeks ago, me and my family took a special trip down to London for my Grandma’s Birthday. One of the main points of going was to have Afternoon Tea in Claridges and We’d had it booked for months.

Claridges is the in the big league of posh hotels in London, up there with the Ritz, Savoy and The Dorchester. As we didn’t want to pay thousands to stay the night we settled for Afternoon Tea. It was a fabulous experience but i was slightly nervous as if you know me i’m a VERY fussy eater and i don’t even drink tea. Some would say the experience is wasted on me but it’s a good job i will eat any cakes, sweets and pasteries.

There was a range of different tea’s to choose once seated and for me, I had a lovely glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. The sandwiches soon followed with a choice of Salmon, Ham, Chicken and Lemongrass and Cheese and Pickle.

When the cakes arrived they were all beautifully arranged and we accompanied by a selection of fruit scones and plain scones with cornish clotted cream and Marco Polo Jam. There was a selection of four cakes which were all amazing. My favourite was the Chocolate gâteau, Mariages frères crème brûlée – which was three layers of yummy goodness. The other cakes included Pear and walnut éclair, vanilla cream which looked amazing but the cream filling was slightly too sickly for me. We also had a Blackcurrant tart and Apricot and caraway cake!

After we finished off another lot of scones the waitors kindly brought out one final cake for my Grandma with ‘Happy Birthday’ wrote on the plate which was a lovely addition to the trip and very throughtful of the staff. The waitors were brilliant and even offered to wrap up our leftovers to take home which we enjoyed the next day.

Overall, It was a lovely experience and a great treat. The afternoon tea is priced at £50 per person and £62/£75 for a Champagne Afternoon Tea. I would say it was very much worth the money for the experience and fabulous cakes. Also a little side note, sorry about the images not been the best, I didn’t have my DSLR and we did have to take these quite discreetly. If you are looking for some other delicious restaurant reviews, check out my Food Directory.
