Sunday Roast Diaries: The Pheasant Hotel, Harome
Happy Sunday! Sunday’s only mean one thing and that’s a new Sunday Roast Diaries post! Last week, we visited The Pheasant Hotel in Harome. It’s about 30 minutes down the road from me. Although it’s a small village, it’s well known for its incredible foodie spots. We were kindly invited to The Pheasant Hotel for lunch and we couldn’t wait for our visit and to tuck into some delicious food.

Prior to our visit, I was contacted the day before to confirm the booking and also to go over some of the new COVID-19 safety measures. As the Pheasant Hotel is also a hotel (clue in the name), facemasks are required in all of the common areas and you’re required to wear one until you are seated in the restaurant or bar. Additionally, you are required to have your temperature taken on arrival. I think that’s a really great step they have taken to reassure guests safety.

On arrival, we were greeted by such a beautiful country-style building. The Pheasant Hotel just looked lovely from the outside and the typically British country style continued inside. We had a temperature took which was fine and completely non-invasive. We were taken to our table in the main dining room, although there was also a gorgeous orangery and also an outdoor dining space.
Stefan and I, both decided to have a three-course meal. I was unsure whether The Phesant even did a Sunday Roast as there was little information on their website. However, I was thrilled to see the Beef Sirlion and Yorkshire Pudding make an appearance on the menu. The three-course meal was £34 per person and two courses £28.50. I kicked things off with a Gin & Tonic as they had a pretty good selection of gins!

To start off, we were brought a selection of different freshly baked bread. We had a beer bread, rosemary & focaccia and also olives and parmesan bread. I’ve got to say the Beer Bread was incredible and I’ve had a few messages on social media from people who have visited in the past and loved the bread. Stefan and I, love our baked goods so we were thrilled with this little taster.

Moving on to our actual starters, I got the Butternut Squash Soup served with sage and pinenuts. The soup was also served with a slice of toasted sourdough bread. I don’t usually go for Butternut Squash Soup but this was delicious and creamy, especially with the pinenuts which complemented the dish. Stefan went for the Smoked Ham Hock which was served with guinea fowl terrine, piccalilli and watercress.

There is no surprise that I went for the Sixty Day Aged Beef Sirlion and Yorkshire Pudding for my main course. After all, I am the queen of the Sunday Roast. The Beef was served pink but it was just about right for me. It came with some roast potatoes which were so fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside and a selection of vegetables. Stefan went for the Lamb Rump served with buttered mash and greens. The dish was presented lovely and Stefan absolutely raved about this dish and said it was one of the best things he’s eaten in a long time (and we’ve eaten out ALOT recently). So that is a huge compliment coming from him. I couldn’t fault my Roast Beef either, you could just tell the quality of the Beef was incredible and it was just cooked to perfection. As you can see the Yorkshire Pudding was a good’un too!

We managed to squeeze in a little pudding and Stefan went for the Apple and Plum Crumble which sounded and looked incredible. It was served with a pot of vanilla custard and creme fraiche ice cream. It did look amazing. I couldn’t decide between the lemon and ginger cheesecake or the dark chocolate fondant. The server, however, persuaded me that chocolate is always the right choice. Who am I to turn down chocolate? It was a lovely dessert which was served with almond ice cream and a baileys cream. I think I would have preferred a little fewer nuts involved but it was delicious all the same.
Our visit to The Pheasant Hotel was fantastic and it actually coincided with our Anniversary so it was a lovely treat. Harome isn’t too far from Helmsley so we popped there afterwards for a little mooch around. We certainly would re-visit The Pheasant Hotel, especially for a special occasion and more than likely just for the Beer Bread!
XOXO
