Sunday Roast Review at The Prince of Wales, Baslow

Sunday Roast Diaries: The Prince of Wales, Baslow

This instalment of the Sunday Roast Dairies takes us to Derbyshire. Stefan and I recently visited the Peak District with Walter as we was visiting Chatsworth at Christmas. It was a truly magical weekend but we finished our weekend with a Roast Dinner at The Prince of Wales in Baslow. The village of Baslow is located not too far from both Chatsworth House and the town of Bakewell making it ideal if you are visiting either of those locations. The Prince of Wales pub was also highly recommended by Jen at She Gets Around who is Queen of the Peaks, so I knew it would be a good spot.

We actually arrived at The Prince of Wales pub an hour early prior to our reservations and they were so accommodating at getting us sat down. As we had Walter with us, we were sat downstairs by the bar but also by the fireplace in their dog-friendly area. However, i believe their main dining area was upstairs. It was all done out lovely, quite modern but with touches of a traditional pub.

As always, we were there for one thing only and that was their Sunday Roast. Although there was a fair few other options on their Sunday menu such as Fish & Chips, Derbyshire Beef Burger and even a selection of sandwiches. Stefan and I both went for the Slow Roasted Derbyshire Beef which was served with a Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes and Seasonal Veg such as Carrot, Parsnip, Broccoli and Cabbage. We also ordered a side of their Cauliflower Cheese and because Stefan is obsessed with Mash, he asked if they could do a side of mash even though it wasn’t on the menu and luckily they could!

The Roast Beef came in at £21.00 with sides both £4.95. I’ve got to say, I was impressed. The Beef was the best I’ve had in quite a long time, it was utterly delicious served medium. Although you only got one piece of Carrot and Parsnip, what I liked was that you got quite a wide variety of Veg with Broccoli, Cabbage and it was all delicious. When it comes to the Yorkshire Pudding, although this was on the smaller side, it was also cooked to perfection. Another highlight was the Cauliflower Cheese, this something you must order alongside your roast!

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed and really enjoyed our meal at The Prince of Wales, Baslow. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was great and so was the service. It was a lovely place to also be able to take Walter in. Don’t forget to check out my other post where I share my three dog-friendly places to visit in the Peak District.

Stay tuned for another Sunday Roast Diaries post soon!
