Braun IPL Silk Expert Pro 5: My Laser Hair Removal Journey
Today’s post is quite an exciting one! For quite a while now, I’ve been using the Braun IPL Silk Expert Pro 5 device to remove and reduce body hair. I’m going to do a little review and let you know how I’ve been getting on with the device. This IPL Epilator device doesn’t come cheap but can potentially save you a lot of time in the long run in terms of hair removal. I had done ALOT of investigating before deciding to get the Braun IPL Silk Expert with the reviews online sounding pretty positive.
The Braun IPL Silk Expert Pro 5 advises at least 12 weeks of consistent use (every week) for long term results but you can expect results from 4 weeks. I’ve actually been using it for a lot longer but I thought I would finally share my thoughts and also how the first couple of weeks were. I kept notes every week! The set that I bought came with two different sized attachments. One was a lot smaller and could be used in more specific areas such as the ankles, bikini area and underarms. The regular attachment is perfect for generally doing the legs. Before the first treatment, it’s advised to do a small patch test to see if there is any reaction then you are good to go. To prepare before treatments, you need to remove all hair and make sure the skin isn’t wet or irritated.
It’s also worth noting that the best results are seen in those with pale complexions with dark hair. I’m probably the perfect candidate for perfect results so it might vary depending on skin tones and hair colour.

Initial Thoughts
After a patch test, I proceeded with my first session a few days later. I’ve got to say the flashes are a little startling at first. But Once I got into the swing of things, it was super easy to use and could do both legs within around 10 minutes. I also did my underarms too using the smaller attachment which you use in a stamp motion. The device has three levels of sensitivity, as it was my first go, I did have it on the lower setting but I did increase this to the top setting within a few weeks.

First four weeks
Within the first four weeks, I got into the swing of things. It was important to make this part of my routine once a week to keep on top of it. By week four, although the hair was growing back, it was very clear that it was a lot more sparse. It wasn’t a huge difference in growth but enough to be noticeable!
12 weeks
By week 12, there was a huge difference in growth, especially with my legs. This started around week 8 where there was minimal hair growth and my legs were super smooth. Areas such as my armpits and bikini line have been a little trickier to halt growth. I’m not sure if the smaller attachment is just not as effective or they are just trickier areas in general. The results from 12 weeks of consistent use have been massive.

long term results
As I mentioned, I have actually been using this a lot longer than 12 weeks. After the initial weekly use for 12 weeks, it advises to use it monthly as a top-up. Hair growth hasn’t completely stopped but it has certainly reduced significantly. Consistency is key though with using this device, if you stop using it for a couple of months, you will notice more growth. Overall, I’m really pleased with the results. Although hair growth hasn’t completely stopped, it’s reduced massively and in some areas, it doesn’t come back at all. It is a huge investment but for an at-home device, it’s not bad at all!
Have you used an IPL Device before?
