I’m a little late with posting my beauty favourites for 2019 but I thought I would share them anyway. Although I’m pretty set in my ways with using the same few holy grail products, I have actually been trying out some incredible items over the last year. I’m hoping to do a few more beauty posts in 2020 as my interest in beauty has really sparked again. In my 2020 goals, you might have read that I’m also going to do a monthly empties blog post. This is mainly just to encourage me to use more products I already own and not buy anymore. It also gives me the chance to share my opinion on the products which I have fully used.
Get sitting comfortably as this is a pretty long round-up of my favourite beauty and skincare products and new discoveries worth shouting about…
I picked up The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer from ASOS for only £4. To be honest, it was a random purchase. I hadn’t tried anything from The Ordinary (& I still haven’t tried anything else) and the price just made me pop it in my basket. The brand has some really affordable items but I really loved this primer. It really smooths out the skin and applies excellently and I think it’s a great base for putting on foundation.
At the beginning of the year, I picked up the IT Cosmetics Your Skin but Better Illumination CC Cream. They also have a regular and matte version but I went for the Illumination one. It’s got amazing coverage for a CC Cream and applies so well. With the Illumination one, there is a shimmer through it which really makes you skin radiant but the glitter gets everywhere. I really love this CC Cream but I might try the regular version next time. I’m also desperate to try the Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer as if the coverage is anything like the CC Cream, it’ll hide everything under the eye!
Highlighter & Blush
To be honest, I’m still pretty loyal to The Balm’s Mary-Loumanizer but I did pick up MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle which is a complete bloggers favourite. I think it’s a great powder for a subtle glow to the cheeks and I’m so glad I’ve finally picked it up!
Another MAC product which has caught my eye in 2019 is the MAC Blush in Melba. To be honest, I’ve never really been fussed with blusher. It’s hard to pick out a shade which you know will go well with your skintone without trying out a few. I randomly picked up Melba off Notino.co.uk and it’s a great shade for my skintone and really goes well with Nars Laguna Bronzer.
Another product that I’m slightly late to the party with is Benefit Gimme Brow+. I bought this around Summer and it has become the ultimate staple product for my brow routine. Once I’ve filled in my brows with powder I use Gimme Brow to set them in place. I think it’s a brilliant product for those with slightly unruly brows, you can read my full review here.
These two have probably been in my collection longer than a year but these two have been my most used eyeshadow palettes. First up, Urban Decay Heat Palette is my ultimate go-to palette and Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette in Mauve has some gorgeous sparkly shades perfect for a going out look.
I pretty much exclusivly only wear Anastsia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks. I don’t think I’ve come across Liquid Lipsticks which are as good as these ones. They are so long lasting, don’t budge at all and I absolutly love the shades Crush and Stripped. Crush is one of those shades which are your lips but better and Stripped is my perfect nude shade. If you are lucky, you might find some of the liquid lipsticks in TK:Maxx for a fraction of the RRP. I actually was given a giftset with some ABH Matte Lipsticks in for Christmas, so I’m really excited to see how I get on with those.
Moving on to skincare. 2019 was the year that I really tried out loads of different skincare products and really found some items which worked so well for me. Pixi actually sent me a few very generous PR Packages so I’ve been trying a few things from them but I’ll do more of an in-depth post at a later date. I did want to mention the Pixi PHenomenal Gel which is ever so mositurising and soothing on the skin. I’ve also just got the Pixi Ceramide Rose Cream which I am so looking forward to trying out.
Another really moisturising product is The Origins X Madeline Shaw Glow-Co-Nuts Hydrating Moisture Mask. You can use this as a face mask or I usually apply a thin layer and leave on over night. This product smells incredible and reminds me of that coconut holiday smell which I love. It’s super hydrating and is definitly something I will re-purchase in the future.
Another product from Pixi which is also another cult favourite is the Pixi Glow Tonic which acts as a toner. Since adding this product into my everyday skincare routine, I’ve really seen a difference in my skin and I really would recommend trying this one out. I can definitly see why it’s a cult favourite.
My most used tanning product of 2019 was definitly the UTAN X Jamie Genevieve Tanning Facial Water. I picked this up from Superdrug – it’s regulary on offer. This tanning water is great for giving your face a little colour, you can spray it before bed after your skincare routine or even after you apply make-up as a setting spray. I’ve found this product is best to apply over night and it leaves you with a really even tan. I’ve never really got along with a facial tanning product before so it’s a miracle that I like this one!
I’ve probably mentioned the Sol De Janiero Bum Bum Cream before but I’m still loving it. After picking up a tub in America in 2017, I’ve been using it non-stop and I’m on my fourth tub now. Whilst the product does promise to firm and tighten the skin and I’m not too sure there’s a massive difference, it’s the amazing scent that I love. The cream itself is so rich and moisturising but it’s not greasy at all and applies like a dream.
It’s no secret what my favourite fragrance of the year is and it’s Boss Orange by Hugo Boss. It’s not really the regular scent I would normally go for but I have found as the older I get my taste has really matured. Boss Orange has notes of vanilla, amber and wood and it’s soon become my every day fragrance!
Also, I thought I would include a little bonus item. The StylPro Brush Cleaner was a Christmas present so I’ve only used it once but I’m already blown away. This device has made cleaning brushes so much easier and throurough. I’m going to do a full blogpost on it but It’s defintily a beauty realted item I am loving right now!
What beauty products were favourites of yours in 2019? Any great recommendations for me?
