Yves Saint Laurent, Black Opium Fragrance

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Fragrance

I know I do quite a few beauty posts in-between my lifestyle and travel bits but In particular i love talking about fragrance. I’ve garnered quite the collection and always love looking for new scents. I’m going to be doing a few more posts where I give full reviews of each of my favourite fragrances (there’s quite a few). One which I have repurchased and loved for some years now is YSL Black Opium. It’s such a staple fragrance, never gets old and is certainly a favourite of mine.

Way back in 1977, Yves Saint Laurent released their signature Opium. This was one of their most popular scents and it was my late Grandma’s signature scent. I remember always seeing it on her dressing table and this was one of the reasons why I was so intrigued by the Black Opium scent when it was released in 2014. The fragrance still carries some of those iconic notes but it’s certainly been modernised and is a lot lighter. The original Opium carries lots of memories for me but it’s personally one I wouldn’t wear as it’s pretty strong. This is why I love that Black Opium is a lot more refined and lighter and carries the same base notes.

Black Opium comes in a gorgeous sparkly bottle which sits perfectly on the dressing table. The scent has a mix of floral notes with black coffee which gives it that unique scent. Orange Blossom, Jasmine and Pachouli are notes found in the scent. This perfume works really well for wearing on a daily basis but I do think this is a good one for date nights. I think it’s the black coffee and white musk which makes it an excellent scent to wear on an evening. You’ll now find several versions of the Black Opium scent from Floral Shock, Neon, Intense, Extreme and Illicit Green. Each bottle with a signature colour to set it apart from one another.

Have you tried Black Opium or any of the other versions of it?

XOXO
