Sunday Roast Diaries: The Old House, Hull
Today, I bring you the first Sunday Roast sat INSIDE of a restaurant for a long time. That’s right, with hospitality opening their doors back open on the 17th May, we immediately booked a restaurant to enjoy a Sunday Roast. For this week’s Sunday Roast Diaries, we took a trip to Hull to The Old House which is under the Shoot the Bull company. We were visiting Hull to try out the new Lost City Adventure Golf at the St.Stephens Centre so we thought we would make a day of it. The Old House is an award-winning Gastropub located on Scale Street and is actually one of the oldest buildings in Hull. I’m not going to lie, the photo’s I’d seen of this place on social media was what made me book a table. Very drool-worthy.

We had booked online for a 2.30 pm sitting at The Old House. When we arrived it looked like a teeny tiny quaint pub but we were lead up some narrow stairs which revealed two dining rooms. Obviously, I had booked primarily for their Sunday Roast but they did have other items on the menu which I think does change frequently. There wasn’t a specific menu for the Sunday Roasts so I had no idea actually how much they were or what they come with etc… There was the option for Wagyu Beef, Chicken or a Nut Roast. We didn’t order anything extravagant to drink, just two soft drinks and both went for Wagyu Beef. I believe the roasts were £13.50 each in the end, at least that’s how much the Beef was.

To start off we were served, some freshly baked bread with garlic butter before our main course arrived. Our Wagyu Beef was served with roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. The beef was incredible, I’m not sure that I’ve even had Wagyu Beef before but the quality was unbelievable. Stefan and I both commented how it was certainly up there with the best beef we’ve had at Hawksmoor. There was also plenty of it too! The Roast Potatoes were also seasoned to perfection. We were also served a side of Broccoli and Cauliflower Cheese, Honey Glazed Parsnips & Carrots and also some greens in some sort of sauce topped with bacon bits. We also had a little jug of gravy each which is an important factor for me. You can never have enough gravy.
I’ve got to say we had plenty of food for between the two of us. We ended up leaving a little bit which is rare for us! It was just so filling. The honey glazed vegetables were amazing. Overall, I was so pleased with finding The Old House. It’s always a great day when you come across a new amazing place for a roast. I’m certain we will be back. It would be an excellent place to dine at if you’re in Hull for a special location. I also want to try the other Shoot the Bull restaurants; Solita which I believe there are a few of them!
Have you been to a Shoot the Bull restaurant?
