As we are moving into the Summer months, where to go on holiday is something playing on many people’s minds. There are so many choices of amazing resorts to choose from so I thought I’d suggest a couple of destinations for cheap family holidays. Whether you are looking for a Summer Holiday this year or planning ahead for 2020, there are some amazing beach destinations suitable for all the family. We are talking about gorgeous beaches, water parks, family entertainment and endless fun!
If you don’t follow me on social media, you will have missed me banging on about my holiday over the last couple of the weeks. At the beginning of May, I actually visited Rhodes on a relaxing 5* all inclusive holiday. I’m going to be writing all about the hotel very soon but it was the Mitsis Rodos Village Beach Hotel in Kiotari. The area probably isn’t the most family friendly as there’s not a lot to do outside of the hotel complex. We did have a car rental so managed to explore the island quite a lot and see what a few different resorts are like.
Rhodes is a beautiful island, so I would certainly recommend looking into considering this destination for your next holidays. Faliraki has quite a lot of family-friendly activities such as their Water Park which we really wanted to visit but it wasn’t open for the season until our final day. There’s also an aquarium and plenty of little activities such as mini golf and go-karting. From what we saw, it did look like it had a lively nightlife, plenty of shops and a short drive to the capital of Rhodes Town. As I said before, we stayed in a Mitsis Hotel which we couldn’t recommend enough and we spotted one in Faliraki right on the beach which we are actually looking at for next year.
Lanzarote is another firm favourite of mine and an ideal beach holiday destination for families, couples and even groups of friends. I’ve visited several times and would really recommend the Playa Del Carmen Resort which is a short transfer from Arrecife airport and had so many restaurants, bars and things to do along the promenade. I’ve actually seen quite a few people mention that it’s a resort they keep going back to as there’s everything you would really need for a beach holiday there. We’ve taken day trips across the island to Costa Teguise for market day, to the National Park and also caught a boat across to Fuerteventura to see the sand dunes!
Another recommendation for a holiday in the Canaries is to visit Tenerife. I’ve actually never been to Tenerife but I’m well aware that you won’t be short of activities to do on the island. Home to one of the biggest water parks in Europe; Siam Park is a must visit when in Tenerife along with Loro Parque which is a zoo with lots of different animals and also visiting the Teide National Park which is Spain’s highest mountain. Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Puerto De La Cruz are just a few resorts with plenty of activities and fun for all the family. I personally really want to visit Tenerife to stay in the Hard Rock Hotel which isn’t too far from Costa Adeje, it looks like such a stunning hotel and with so much entertainment.
If you’re looking for a thrill-seeking adventure in the sunshine then Salou will be the one for you. On the Spanish coastline in Costa Daurada is home to PortAventura one of the biggest theme parks around and of course the sister park; Ferrari Land which I attended the opening in 2017. PortAventura is a great place to visit if you’re staying in Salou but they’ve got some pretty amazing on-site hotels with dining packages worth checking out if a theme park family break is for you. I absolutely loved my time at PortAventura and would 100% book a trip back to Salou in the near future.
Another destination, I visited quite a few times when I was younger was the Spanish resort of Benalmadena on the Costa Del Sol. I’ve written about Benalmadena a few times as I think it’s one of those classic family-friendly resorts with a little bit of everything to keep all the family entertained. If you like your home comforts, there are plenty of English Pubs whilst the Sea Life Centre and Tivoli World offer heaps of fun for children. I also think it’s in such a great location, nestled in between Malaga and Marbella which you can visit both on day trips. Another great idea of a day trip is to Gibraltar which isn’t too far away and certainly worth visiting to climb the Gibraltar Rock and see the wild monkeys.
My final destination to mention is Cyprus with a slightly hefty flight time of nearly five hours. I have fond memories of visiting Cyprus as a child, especially to the huge water park in Ayia Napa. I also remember staying in Protaras which had a great nightlife even if you are with kids. Side note though, I must warn you, going in the height of the season it’s insanely hot so I would recommend a holiday to Cyprus in June or September time.
Have you been to any of these destinations? Where is your favourite family-friendly resort?
