The Six Country Challenge & My 2017 Travel Wishlist

January 26, 2017

Last year, I set the pretty ambitious goal of visiting six brand new countries; I managed three which still exceeded my expectations. The three countries were Holland, Monaco (Yes, I’m counting this one!) and Germany. This year, I’m bringing back the Six Country Challenge and I thought I would do a little travel wishlist of places I’d love to visit this year.

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned Copenhagen a couple of times in previous Travel Wishlists. Finally, my wish has been granted! I’m actually heading over to Denmark next week and will be spending a couple of days in Copenhagen. I’m so excited to explore the city, if you have been before, please do leave recommendations in the comments. I know that Tivoli Gardens is closed in Winter which is such a shame as it looks amazing – an excuse for another trip? I’m also potentially going to head over the Øresund Bridge to Malmo in Sweden.

At the moment, I’m looking for somewhere to visit in March and Prague is a high contender. I don’t actually know a lot about Prague so it would be great to fully immerse myself in the culture and discover the sights of the city. From what I’ve seen online, the architecture is absolutely stunning.

It’s pretty broad to just say Italy but there are so many cities I’d love to visit in Italy. Year after year, It’s been my mission to visit Italy, I’m hoping 2017 is the year! Rome, Venice and the Amalfi Coast are top of my list but I’d also love to visit Milan, Florence and Verona. There’s just so much to see and discover in Italy and I want to do it all whilst drinking lot’s of wine and eating lot’s of pizza and gelato!

I visited Barcelona briefly in 2012 on a day trip. I so wish I’d had more time to explore the city and also take everything in. We did manage to see a lot but it was almost like a teaser trip. We were on a guided tour so our time was pretty limited and we didn’t get to Park Güell which I was gutted about! I studied Gaudi at college and even some of his work inspired my fashion collections.  I’d also love to go inside the Sagrada Família too!

In Summer, I’m hoping to visit Budapest. Last year, Lily visited and I was awfully jealous as it looked like she had such a lovely time. I think Summer would be a lovely time to visit and enjoy the thermal baths & spas. I also hear that it’s quite a cheap city which is always a bonus if you are on a budget!

The Big American Adventure

I mentioned in my 2017 Goals post that I was planning a big trip to America. I’ve still not got anything set in stone and booked yet but fingers crossed, I’ll be heading stateside in October and November. This is basically my dream trip so I can’t wait to get stuck in and start planning the trip. If you’ve travelled solo in America, please leave a comment or tweet me if you’ve got any advice or tips. Oh and I’m hoping to potentially visit Canada too!

In the past couple of months, I’ve really enjoyed visiting some of my favourite cities in the UK and I also went to Glasgow for the first time. Hopefully, a couple more staycations will be on the cards for 2017. Brighton and Bath are on my wishlist, I’ve never actually gone further South than London so I’d love to visit the South Coast. I know this list is awfully ambitious but I always like to aim high! I set myself these goals but I never thought that I would travel as much as I did last year and I loved it. The travel bug has officially caught me!

All of these places on your list would be so wonderful to visit. Prague and Budapest have such beautiful architecture and so much history and there are so many cities I would love to see in Italy. I hope you are able to see all of the places on your wishlist!

After uni i did a tour of some of europe. Italy was my favourite, so hope you go. I went to Rome, Venice and Florence; I liked Florence the most, but enjoyed the gondola in Venice so don’t miss that – nice way to see some of the lovely scenery. Never been to America, but i travelled alone then as most of my friends were in committed relationships and didn’t want to go to the same kind of places as me. However I was wary that it might not be completely safe to go alone, so looked for tour groups. I went through STA travel and went on one of contiki tours. It was great as helps you see more things than you might if you’d planned the trip yourself, and you meet people of similar age groups. Believe it’s 18-35. I still keep in touch with some of those i was on tour with! x

  12. Good luck with your six country challenge. In Copenhagen make sure you visit the little mermaid statue, their zoo is also pretty awesome, there’s a cute little museum on hans christian anderson with loads of fairy tale stuff inside, if you love burgers mad burger next to Tivoli is the best burger I’ve ever had, and I would recommend and Christianshavn (which is like their red light district kinda area) is so cool to look round. There’s so much to do you’ll have an amazing time. Also you need to go to Rome and Budapest both are in my top places I’ve visited x

I’m hoping to visit 12 new places in 2017, even if it’s a part of London I’ve not yet been to, so love the idea of the six country challenge! I’m heading to Edinburgh on Monday and have never been to Scotland before so am super excited. I would love to visit America, Barcelona and Copenhagen. I visited Italy on a school trip years ago and it was beautiful – I’d love to go again! xx
