Beauty: First Impressions of The Balm

April 6, 2016

The Balm is a brand which I have wanted to try for such a long time. The only thing that I have tried is their Nude’tude palettes which I tracked down in TK:Maxx for only £15 – Full review will be coming soon. Last week, I got my hands on a couple more additions from the brand which I have been so excited for.

Mary-Lou Manizer Highighter* – £14.50

The Mary-Lou Manizer has been on my beauty wishlist for ages, I am totally obsessed with highlighters and will do anything to make my face twinkle like a glitterball. The Balm actually stocks three different highlighters which are branded as “sisters” – Cindy, Mary and Betty. Mary-Lou is a soft champagne highlight, whereas Cindy-Lou is pink highlight and Betty-Lou is a dark bronze shade. Out of the three, the Mary-Lou highlight is definitely the star of the show, although Cindy-Lou is on my wishlist!
The shimmer of this highlight is incredibly beautiful, it’s very pigmentated and I love how creamy it feels even though it’s a powder. On the skin it’s a very subtle shimmer which I like and there’s no big chunks of glitter which is always a bonus. Like I said, I love trying out new highlighters and I can’t believe I’ve only just tried this one out as it’s amazing!

Frat Boy Blush* – £12.90

Blushers aren’t a beauty product that I rave on about nor do I seek out new shades. I still have a pretty substantial collection of blush but It’s just not something that makes me tick. I had however heard about The Balm’s Frat Boy Blush so I decided to give it a go. Frat Boy is a lovely peachy pink shade, It’s very pigmentated so a little does go a long way. I really like the shade as it’s not too in your face and really wearable on a daily basis.

Bahama Mama Bronzing Powder* – £10.50

The final product from The Balm is the Bahama Mama Bronzing Powder which I was quite skeptical about it as it looked quite dark but I always say this! When applied, it’s such a beautiful warm glow to the cheekbones and the product blends really nicely. I compared this to the Nars Laguna Bronzer, which I use on a daily basis and the Bahama Mama is slightly darker so I will be using this throughout Summer when I’ve got more of a tan but I’d say it’s still. I am really pleased with this product and I think it could be a new favourite of mine!

Overall, I’m really pleased with the items I’ve tried from The Balm and whilst I’m supposed to be on a make-up ban (ha!) I think I might have to invest in a couple more products from the brand! The Balm is available from Beautyspin.co.uk and currently have some really good deals on products! Have you tried anything from The Balm?
