24 Hours in the City of Bath

I’ve got a few exciting posts about our road trip which we took for my Birthday at the end of August. I thought I would start off with the first stop which was the City of Bath. This was our first trip to Bath and I had wanted to visit for the longest time. However, it’s about a 6-hour drive from us but a perfect stop off on the way down to the South West Coast.

Our first port of call was actually grabbing lunch. Seen as it was a Sunday, it was only fitting that I found somewhere to visit as part of my Sunday Roast Diaries series. We visited the Hare & Hounds which was en route into the city centre on Landsdown Road. You can read my full review here but spoiler alert, it was pretty great. We actually opted for the sharing platter to share and it really was something else. I’d fully recommend visiting the Hare & Hounds if you are in the area and also it’s got a great outdoor space for when the weather is lovely.

After lunch, we made our way into the city and checked into our hotel. We parked in the Charlotte Street Car Park which was pretty much the most central place to park and access to all the main sights. Our hotel was the Broadstreet Townhouse which I’d got a decent deal on Expedia – Especially as this was over the bank holiday. It was quite a small boutique place but the rooms were utterly stunning. The only downside was the steep steps up to the rooms which killed me every time going up. I’ll share some photos from the room but as you can see it was just a beautiful room with an opulent style bed, a roll-top bath and a rainfall shower. The room was also equipped with modern techs like a Dyson Fan, Roberts Radio, Smart TV and we also had a complimentary bottle of prosecco and beers.

The Broadstreet Townhouse isn’t far from the main drag of Bath. You can easily get lost in all the small streets around the city centre and alleyways filled with the cutest little shops. That afternoon we had a little wander around the shops and explored the general area. The famous Roman Baths are located right in the heart of Bath right next to the stunning Bath Cathedral. Unfortunately, it was super busy with it being Bank Holiday and there were no tickets left at the Roman Baths. It’s one to save for a future trip!

One of the reasons I wanted to visit Bath was to see some of the filming locations from Bridgeton! The main one being The Royal Crescent which not only featured in the Netflix series but it’s a huge sight in Bath. The Royal Crescent was built in the 1700s and is a very regal crescent with 30 terraced houses. It’s a pretty beautiful area surrounded by parks. I found out that the end house (No1) which is used as a museum is actually the Fetheringtons House in Bridgerton.

In the evening, we visited The Botanist which didn’t look like much from the outside but it was the most incredible building inside. It had surely got to be previously a post office or a bank. Just like everything in Bath, even The Botanist was in such a regal building. You can’t go wrong for food in there, especially their delicious hanging kebabs. As it was around my birthday, I also got a complimentary bottle of fizz as I’m part of their loyalty scheme. I’d recommend signing up for these perks if you visit a lot like myself. We also visited The Canary Gin Bar which had been recommended a few times to me on Instagram. As we’re both gin drinkers, this place was amazing. They had a huge selection of gins including their own distilled gin. We had the best time here making our way through the cocktail menu.

The next morning, I got up at the crack of dawn (well, actually 8.30 am) to join the queue for the Thermae Bath Spa. I was a little bit confused about how to get tickets for the Thermae Bath Spa as it wasn’t really too clear. I believe the general gist is that time slot wristbands are given on a first come first served basis when the bath opens at 9 am. However, it was Bank Holiday Monday when we visited so even at 9 am, there were hundreds already in the queue. We managed to get a timeslot for around lunchtime where you return and pay for the session then.

Whilst we waited for our timeslot, we had breakfast back at our hotel. I’m still here singing the praises of our hotel as our breakfast was also spot on. We used the morning to just wander around Bath and hunting down more Bridgerton locations. We headed to Abbey Green which I immediately recognised from the series. The Abbey Deli was used as the atelier!

Our final stop in Bath before heading to the South West Coast was going back to the Thermae Bath Spa when it was our timeslot. This experience was around £80 for both of us but we did get a 2-hour session, robes, slippers and towels. I don’t have any photos as they operate a strict no phone zone throughout the spa but it was so good to just switch off. The spa included an open-air rooftop pool which was pretty incredible, there were also numerous steam and relaxation rooms in the wellness suite. We spent a lot of time in the Minerva Bath which had a little whirlpool and lazy river stream. I’d definitely recommend paying the Spa a visit as the rooftop pool alone was such an amazing experience.

We loved our time in Bath, it was such a beautiful city. I definitely want to go back again one day, preferably when it isn’t as busy. I’m so glad we finally got to visit though! I’ve got lots more posts coming from my little road trip to keep your eyes peeled for them.

XOXO

  2. Bath is such a beautiful city and somewhere I haven’t been for way to long – it sounds like you had an incredible 24 hours. The Botanist sounds like an interesting place to go to.
