Five Things To Do on a Staycation at the Seaside

Staycations are looking like the safest option to get out and about this year. The UK has so many wonderful places to explore and where better for a sun-filled staycation than heading to the seaside. I’ve been so lucky to have lived by the seaside all my life. It was only when I moved to Birmingham for University did I realise how lovely it was to always be by the sea. The fresh sea air really is so good for you. I’ve teamed up with Regatta on this post who have recently put together their own feature on different Seaside Towns and looking at how they have changed over the years. I thought I would share some of my favourite things to do whilst visiting the seaside. I mean, I’m kind of an expert.

Fish and Chips

First off and most importantly, you can’t beat Fish and Chips at the seaside. No other will compare. I may also be slightly biased but I think Fish and Chips in the North East are the best. Whitby, in particular, has some amazing fish and chip places, some of which have won the best in the UK! You do have to be pretty careful if you’re not dining in as the pesky seagulls have been known to steal a few chips!

Buckets and Spades on the Sand

No trip to the seaside is complete without actually visiting the beach and getting out your bucket and spade. Where I live, we have two long golden beaches but sometimes it nice to visit some other quieter places. Close by to Scarborough is Cayton Bay which is a surfers paradise and also a lovely place to visit with the family for a day on the sands with a bucket and spade. Nothing beats a nostalgic day on the beach with donkey rides in the shadows of the colourful chalets.

Clifftop Walks

I was so thankful to live by the seaside during the lockdown, during that time, I well and truly explored the area of many different walking paths. It was actually amazing to get out and about on the cliffs and experience some of the clifftop walks. The Cleveland Way goes along this part of the coastline and most days, I found myself walking along the clifftops and taking in the sea air whilst experiencing some phenomenal views of the coastline.

Fun at the Arcades

I would usually say this is must-do for any visit to the seaside. I thought I would still add this to my list but personally, I’d be extra careful with visiting the arcades post-coronavirus. As far as I’m aware, the arcades have re-opened but I don’t know what the safety procedures are. I do love a day out at the arcades, winning pointless prizes and a game of mini-golf! There is so much fun to be had in the arcades!

we all scream for ice cream!

My favourite thing to do at the seaside? Get ice cream of course. Grabbing a 99 ice cream or even treating yourself to a HUGE ice cream sundae is a must-do for a trip to the seaside! I was beyond thrilled when my local ice cream parlour re-opened after lockdown so I could get a lemon top with a flake and wander along the beach with it.

I’ve really started to appreciate where I live and want to do a few more blog posts about the general Yorkshire Coast area. From dining out to visiting charming seaside towns such as Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay, I truly love being by the seaside. Will you be going on a UK staycation this Summer? Where is your favourite British Seaside Resort?

XOXO
