Welcome to New York #1

October 19, 2017

I’ve officially started my nine week trip across America and Canada. On Tuesday, I flew from Manchester Airport to New York JFK to embark on my crazy solo trip. I can’t believe I actually made it across the Atlantic and WITHOUT any tears! I arrived in New York late afternoon and got a taxi into Manhattan. I’m staying at The Jane Hotel in Greenwich Village which is such a cute little affordable hotel. The lobby is literally JUST like the Tower of Terror at Disney. The rooms are very cosy but overall, it’s an amazing price for New York. I’ll be doing a full review soon (probably in December when I’ve stayed here again).

Whilst I probably needed an early night, I ended up on the subway heading towards Times Square. I ended up getting a Shake Shack which was delicious and wandering amongst all the bright lights of Broadway. I’m not going to lie, I did fall in Sephora but I deserve a medal for resisting purchasing anything.

Yesterday, I took advantage of the hotel’s amazing location and had an early morning stroll around Greenwich Village via my favourite; Magnolia’s Bakery for cupcakes. I was maybe a little too early for shopping as most didn’t open until 11am!

As I’ve visited New York before and already done a lot of the main touristy things, I wanted to make sure on the trip I saw some new things. The One World Observatory at the World Trade Centre wasn’t open when I visited in 2012 so I decided to head over there. Admission was $38 and I’d say it was very much well worth doing. The views over Manhattan were obviously pretty spectacular and I could’ve spent hours up there.

I’ve also never visited Wall Street before so I had a wander around the area, It wasn’t what I was expecting at all! The Charging Bull and Little Girl area is literally in the middle of a road and was absolute chaos – I think getting there super early for a photo is the only way.

I couldn’t resist heading to 5th Avenue to pop in some shops and see the Rockefeller Centre. The ice rink is already in place at Rockefeller Plaza which is super exciting. I can’t wait to come back in December when Christmas has taken over the city. Jetlag really defeated me yesterday so I ended up in bed by 8pm with a takeaway pizza watching Keeping up with the Kardashians.

I’m not too sure how I’m going to go about documenting my trip but I’ve just named this as #1 and we will see how this diary styled post goes! Don’t forget to follow me on social media to keep up with everything I’m getting up to. Tomorrow, I’m starting my Trek America trip and will be travelling to Philadelphia & Washington DC!
