Why You Should Consider a Staycation Holiday This WinterIt’s not surprising that many people want to get away from the UK during the winter – all over the country, come winter the weather starts to worsen and if you want to see a lot of wind, rain and snow, you’re certainly in the right place. But, jetting off for some winter sun can be costly, and after your holiday you’re probably going to feel even colder when you return! As long as you remember to wrap up warmly, the UK can actually be the perfect winter destination, so why not do something different and take a staycation for Christmas this year? We’ve listed some of the top reasons to travel around the UK for a change this winter.

Road Trips

For those who enjoy driving, the UK is home to some amazing road trip routes, with winter one of the best seasons to get some stunning views of snow-topped mountains and frozen lakes. Of course, it’s always important to remember road safety, so don’t plan any road trips around areas that are reported to be extra perilous during the winter months, such as the winding country roads that you can find on many road trip routes in Scotland and Wales. But, sticking to A roads and motorways won’t deprive you of views, with many amazing sights to be seen no matter which routes you take. Not on the road yet? Prepare yourself for learning to drive with a few practice driving theory tests.

Christmas Spirit

Who says that you have to fly out to Germany to get a great experience of the Christmas markets? All over the UK, festive markets are becoming more and more popular, with tourists from all around the world flocking to the markets in London, Birmingham and Manchester during November and December to stock up on unique gifts, festive foods, decorative accessories and more. I’m lucky that I’m going to four Christmas markets this season! All around the country, there are various festivities going on, whether you’re hoping to get involved in little-known village traditions or want to go to a huge, city event for the season.

Save Money

Last but not least, the last thing that you want to do when you’re already budgeting for Christmas is spend more than necessary on taking a winter trip. Since holidays in the UK are in much less demand during the colder months, it’s highly likely that you’ll be able to find some fantastic deals on hotels, bed and breakfasts, and more that you’ll be able to take advantage of. Along with that, the poor exchange rates mean that there’s never been a better time than now to explore UK staycation options if you’re hoping to save money on travel.

Why spend more on travelling abroad when there are so many great options for a UK staycation this winter? Although it might not be the perfect setting for sunbathing, the UK can be a beautiful and fun destination to explore during the winter season. Have you got a staycation planned this winter?

I love a winter staycation. I’m looking forward to a romantic country break with the Mr. in a few weeks. No hassle of flying or anything.

There really is so much to do in the UK at this time of year I think a staycation is a great idea all around.

I’m all for a staycation this winter! It’s too costly to escape just for a week to come back to the harsh weather. May as well get used to it. I’m going to take a trip to the Birmingham Christmas Market and can’t wait! There’s so many markets and winter wonderlands in the UK there’s plenty to do. x

I love having a staycation, like you say it can be just as good as having a trip abroad!
