How to Organise a Romantic Weekend Away
Now and again it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and go for a romantic weekend away with your partner. This gives you a break from work, childcare and any other responsibilities and means you can focus on each other for a change. In fact, research suggests that couples who travel together have healthier and happier relationships. With the right choice of location and an exciting itinerary, you can organise a memorable trip, that’s sure to have you feeling loved-up with each other and your destination.

Determine your budget
Firstly, it’s vital that you come up with a rough figure for what you plan to spend on your getaway. This way, you can determine how much you can afford before you start looking at destinations which will prevent you from getting carried away and overspending. Your budget will also determine how far you can travel and how you’ll get there, for example, will you be able to fly, drive or get the train?

Location
If you are planning on a short trip, it may be better to look for somewhere close to home, which means more time can be spent enjoying yourself vs travelling. You should also pick somewhere that interests you both or will allow you to take part in your favourite hobbies or interests, for example, a seaside location if you want to get out on the open water or a rural inland location if you’re looking for great hiking or biking trails. Think about popular tourist locations you haven’t yet explored together. If you live in the North of England, you could consider looking at trains to York, whereas for the South, you may want to look at travelling to Brighton.
Accommodation
A country cottage or boutique hotel is perfect for creating a relaxing atmosphere and making you feel like it’s just the two of you. Decide what’s important to you before you book – do you want spa facilities? An open fire to cosy-up in front of? Or plenty of fancy restaurants and trendy bars nearby? If you look for somewhere with great views, a comfy bed and a luxurious ensuite, you might find you never want to leave your accommodation!
Itinerary
Be sure to put in place any arrangements well in advance of your trip, for example, organising a pet sitter, childcare, your leave from work and any travel arrangements. If you’re travelling abroad, be sure to check out the country’s requirements for travel and get your passport renewed with plenty of time to spare.
In terms of activities when you’re there, planning in advance means you won’t be stuck for ideas after you arrive. Look up local restaurants and attractions and find out opening times and menus or ticket prices. If you book ahead of your trip, you may even get discounted rates and it will ensure you’re not disappointed when you arrive to find them fully booked.
