New York City 2012, Day 2

Here’s some photos from Day 2 in New York which was last Friday (24th). This was our first full day in the city. We ddid plan on going to Macy’s and the Empire State Building but there was a shooting there so we changed plans and stayed in the Rockefeller Centre Area and later on we got the subway to Coney Island.

I think I’ve seen this on tumblr or somewhere but this is on sixth avenue and it’s right by my hotel and it’s such a cute little thing on the side of the road.

Further down sixth avenue is Radio City Music Hall which is where all the big concerts are on, At the moment the Cirque de Soleil shows were on for like a month.

We had breakfast down below in Rockerfeller Plaza, This is in the centre of the plaza and in winter it’s where the famous ice skating rink and Christmas tree is. I really liked this area and there was some great shops including J.Crew, Free People, Michael Kors, The Lego Store & L’Occataine. We some how got roped into doing a tour of the Rockerfeller Centre and the area, I’m not going to lie – it got a bit boring after a while.

Whilst on the tour, in the middle of the plaza they were filming Access Hollywood and Team USA swimmer Missy Franklin (In the middle in a blue top) was been interview, which was quite exciting.

Opposite the Rockerfeller Centre is Saks on 5th Avenue and there was a guy with a whistle and a blow up rat. This is apparently what they do in America as a peaceful protest. He was protesting against the workers union or something. I thought this was so novel!

The next couple of photos are took from the Top of the Rockerfeller Centre which was a really great experience, I loved seeing all the views! You could see everything from the Statue of Liberty to Central Park. When you’re at the top there is three different viewing floors inside and out so it’s a really great experience!

We caught the Subway to Coney Island as i knew the NY Aquarium was there and on Fridays it’s pay what you want. The weather was absolutely scorching and the boardwalk was packed not to mention the long long ques for the Aquarium but so well worth it. I thought it was a great little spot to go if you want something different outside of the city and it only takes about 50 minutes on the subway and costs $2.50!

The Aquarium was absolutly huge – well compared to our local sea life centre! They had everything from Pengiuns, Sea Lions and Walruses. I was quite excited about the Walruses as I’ve never seen one before.

We couldn’t go to Coney Island without going on a couple of rides, this is probably one of the best photos of me and my mum where we aren’t screaming with hair everywhere! Oh, I totally forgot at Luna Park (one of the fairgrounds) there was a little stage and Jay Sean was there.

We were actually going to stop to see some fireworks but we ended going back into the city early and grabbing something to eat. Coney Island was well worth going to though!
