How to Maintain Healthy Hair When Travelling

September 12, 2019

Most of us have grown so accustomed to washing our hair every couple of days that we don’t even think about it anymore. However, when you start travelling, you might find it hard to maintain this schedule. If you’re planning to spend a significant amount of time on the road, here are some words of advice when it comes to maintaining healthy hair.

Use Combination Products

In order to save yourself both luggage space and money, look for products that can serve multiple functions in one. Huile prodigieuse is a perfect example of this – Huile prodigieuse is a multi-purpose moisturising oil that can nourish and repair your hair, face, and skin. These effective products also come in convenient little packages that are ideal for travelling – and you definitely can’t go without a good moisturising oil when you’re abroad!

Wherever you have the option of buying several individual products or a single product that can achieve similar results, you should give more weight to the small package when you’re travelling. The combination product might not be as good as combining high-quality individual products, but when you are travelling, this difference is rarely significant enough to matter.

Going All Natural

If you are preparing for the kind of travel where showers and other amenities might be in short supply, or where you aren’t going to have time to worry about your appearance, you always have the option of going all-in and letting your hair take care of itself. However, beware of the large number of misunderstandings that persist when it comes to this approach.

While it is true that your hair can do a good job of keeping itself clean, you need to give it several months at least for your hair to adjust to clean itself. Most of us maintain our hair using shampoo and conditioner, but these both remove the natural oils that our hair produces to clean itself. Over time, our hair adapts to being shampooed regularly and produces less oil as a result.

If you suddenly stop washing your hair, your hair will overcompensate for the lower level of oils by overproducing, which makes your hair look and feel greasy. If you keep just washing your hair with water, your hair will adjust and you can maintain clean hair without the need for shampoo. Unfortunately, you will have to get through the initial period of having dirty and greasy hair until your hair has adjusted.

Keep it Short

If you want to make things as easy as possible when you are travelling, or you’re going on one of those aforementioned travels where washing your hair is difficult, there’s always the option of cutting your hair shorter. You don’t have to take all your hair off, but the less hair you have to wash, the less product you will need to bring with you to manage it.

There are other advantages to keeping your hair short when you’re travelling, especially if you’re going to be going somewhere much warmer than you’re used to. This option isn’t for everyone, but if the choice is between shorter hair and dirty hair, lots of people would prefer the former. Plus if you do buy a good moisturising oil, it will last you a lot longer as there’s less hair to use it on!

Once you have some experience travelling, you will develop your own routine for when you’re on the road. Eventually, keeping your hair looking healthy and vibrant while on the move will be just as easy as at home.
