This post is seriously overdue as I’ve just been sitting on it for ages and haven’t hit publish. It’s been a hot minute since I was invited along to try the New Discoveries menu at Red’s True BBQ in Leeds. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen it all unfold on my stories with all the delicious food but it was many moons ago but I thought it was still worth sharing because who doesn’t want to hear about delicious food?
Can you believe this was my first time visiting Red’s True BBQ and it certainly won’t be my last. My boyfriend and I arrived to the restaurant on Call Lane in Leeds City Centre for our 8 pm reservation and was given the low down on the new menu. Even at 8pm, the whole restaurant was packed out with a buzzing atmosphere. The New Discoveries menu had launched that day and it seems that Red really has some die-hard fans who had stopped by just to check out the new menu on launch day!
Not only does Reds True BBQ have an extensive BBQ menu but they have a damn good cocktail list too. As Stefan was driving he worked his way through the mocktail menu and they looked amazing. I tried the Dubble Bubble which was a gin-based (obviously) cocktail with a bubble gum syrup!
As I mentioned before, there has been some new additions to the Red’s menu and we got to try most of them in a serious feast. We were truly spoilt for choice as the lovely team at Red’s had chosen dishes for us to get a feel for the new discoveries as well as some classic Red’s dishes. We kicked it off with FIVE starters! My eyes were litterally popping out as I was drooling as we didn’t know where to start. We had the Honey Bourbon Pork Belly, Hot-or-Not Baby Back Stack, Popcorn Jackfruit, Smoked Mushrooms and the Mac and Cheese Balls.
First off, we need to mention that the Honey Bourbon Pork Belly was one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had. I was literally fighting Stefan off from them. I couldn’t recommend the Pork Belly enough, it was delicious! What I also found super interesting (in a good way) was the Popcorn Jackfruit. Red’s have got lot’s of new additions to their menu to cater for Vegetarians and Vegans which is great. Personally, I’ve never tried jackfruit and it was pretty damn good. I could’ve sworn it was chicken! The Mac and Cheese Balls were a huge hit for me too, but when do I ever turn my nose up at Mac and Cheese?!
The incredible feast continued into the main courses. The Alabama Fish Stack Sandwich and Memphis Pork Belly were both items featured on the New Discoveries menu that we got to try. Obviously, I was all over the Memphis Pork Belly which was served with a Memphis Dry Rub, Apple Sauce and greens. We did try some of the Alabama Fish Stack Sandwich but I’m not really a HUGE fishy person so it probably wouldn’t be something I would re-order. The portion sizes were huge but nothing compared to the third dish; The Pitmaster Tray – A Red’s True BBQ Classic. The tray, as you can imagine has a little bit of everything and would make the perfect sharing plate or for someone with a very large appetite. Brisket, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Sausage – It’s all there!
Our mains were served with a selection of sides. The Hog Fries were confiscated to my side of the table. Pulled Pork and Sour Cream topped fries is literally my idea of heaven. We also had Charred Broccoli and Grilled Baby Gem Lettuce. Although these sound like two hella’ boring sides, the way they had been smoked and seasoned made them absolutely delicious. I never thought we would end up fighting over the last piece of lettuce but it happened.
We left Red’s True BBQ absolutely stuffed. Between us, I don’t think we’ve ever eaten that much in one sitting. A massive thank you to the Red’s team for being so generous and having us for the evening. We really enjoyed devouring all the food and we will definitely be back. For me, the star of the show was the Pork Belly, it’s certainly what I will be having next time!
Have you ever been to Red’s True BBQ?
