Although Spring is always welcome after the cold harsh Winter period, it doesn’t always guarantee good weather. In fact, Spring can often be just as cold, wet, windy and even snowy! With that in mind, there are going to be some weekends or afternoons where you just can’t get out of the house. Which can often be quite stressful as well as boring for the kids. You might have a million and one jobs to do around the house, but when your little ones are bored (despite having a room filled with toys and numerous gadgets that they begged for) it can be difficult to get anything done. So, with that in mind, I’ve put together this list of ways you can keep the kids entertained when you’re all stuck inside. Enjoy!
Back to basics
Sometimes, digging out the colouring pens and having a good old scribble on some paper or a colouring book is a lovely way for the kids to pass the time. Especially if you treat them to new pens. Although, you don’t need to spend a fortune on colouring books. Did you know that you can print off colouring pages online? Just make sure you have plenty of ink in your printer – check out Printer Inks Website for the latest prices – and search colouring pages online. If the kids can choose what they want to colour then they’ll be far more invested in it. You might even get to enjoy a hot cup of tea for a change!
Get them in the kitchen
If you can bare to watch mess unfolding, then you can always get the kids in the kitchen and let them do a bit of baking. Give them age-appropriate jobs stages to join in with and they’ll certainly enjoy the end result just as much! If letting the kids loose in the kitchen is a bit of a nightmare then don’t worry. You could buy some biscuits or plain fairy cakes and let the kids decorate them instead.
Give them chores
This one is probably more suited to the little ones! If you have a mountain of clothes to put away, ask them to help. Even if it is just putting the odd socks in a pile. Or give them a clean kitchen sponge or dishcloth and instruct them to wipe things down. They’ll love helping mummy. As for the older children, you’ll be amazed at how quickly they’ll find something to entertain themselves with when you ask them to dry the dishes…!
Make a picnic
Just because you can’t go outside, doesn’t mean you can’t have a picnic! Set out space in the living room, put down a blanket and prepare a picnic lunch. The kids could even bring their favourite toys to join in. Don’t forget the lemonade!
You don’t need a flashy games console to have a dance contest. Play some music on your phone or via YouTube and get the little ones up dancing. Trust me, they’ll love it. It’ll certainly tire them out too!
