Have you seen the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious news?! Mary Poppins is coming back to London’s West End in 2019. The well-loved Disney Musical is set to return to the stage at the Prince Edward Theatre in October. We all know how much of a big Disney fan I am, so I’m pretty excited about this news.
Mary Poppins has always been one of my favourite Disney movies. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen the original movie, it’s also my Mum’s favourites. Last week, we both finally went to see Mary Poppins Returns; the new sequel to the original PL Travers story. I did have my reservations about them making a sequel and it was an incredible movie. Emily Blunt is one of my favourite actresses’ and she played Mary Poppins wonderfully and put her own spin on it. If you haven’t seen it already, it’d certainly recommend doing so! I already want to go see it again at the cinema!
I’ve actually already seen musical on Broadway. For my 18thBirthday, we visited New York and I was adamant that we would go to a Broadway show. We were really lucky to bag tickets to Mary Poppins and they were absolute prime seats in the theatre and not too expensive. It was at the New Amsterdam Theatre which is next door to Madame Tussauds, just around the corner from the main action of Times Square. Our seats were on the first balcony to the right of the stage and let me tell you, I don’t think you could have had better seats in the whole of the theatre. Something truly special happens (I don’t want to spoil it) and it’s the best view from there!
For my first Broadway show, it certainly was an incredible experience. The whole production was amazing, I loved seeing all my favourite songs performed live. It’s just one of those feel-good shows, which you can’t help but have a jolly time with Mary. I do have to say some of the British accents from the performers were slightly questionable. With the arrival of the Musical in the West End, I’m sure the British accents will be on point. Joining the cast at the Prince Edward Theatre is Zizi Strallen as Mary Poppins and Charlie Stemp as Bert. Tickets are now currently available for shows starting in October, it would make a great present for Mother’s Day or a Birthday. I’m thinking my Mum would love a trip down to London to see it, especially around Christmas.
The show is going to be replacing Aladdin, which will be going on a UK Tour in 2020. Can you actually believe I’ve still not seen the Aladdin Musical in the West End. It’s been on my must see list since it opened but I’ve not got around to it. I think it’s time to get my skates on or I’ll miss out. Let me know if you’ve seen Aladdin before, is it worth booking before it leaves the west end.
It’s hard to escape Mary Poppins with the release of Mary Poppins Returns and the return to the West End. To be honest, I’m really glad as it really makes it super easy buying my Mum Mary Poppins themed presents. Most of her Christmas present followed the theme and I’m sure Mother’s Day will be the same. I thought I’d share with you some of my top finds of the cutest Mary Poppins items I’ve seen online. Who wouldn’t want their own Carpet Bag or talking Umbrella?!
