Born in 1994, I’m a nineties kid. The Spice Girls were my life back then and I had a little walkman that I listened to all the 90s pop music on. When I heard 5ive were going to be performing in my hometown at Mecca Bingo, I knew it had to be there. The little nineties pop princess inside of me knew it would be a great night.
So a couple of weeks ago, I headed to my local Mecca Bingo club to watch 5ive perform all of their greatest hits. I’ve never actually been to Bingo before but I’ve heard it’s a good night out. Also, I was so shocked at how big the bingo hall actually was. I’m not surprised bands are playing live here as it looks like the perfect venue. Before 5ive took to the stage we had six rounds of bingo including in out ticket. There was prizes up to £250 (and a meet and greet with 5ive!!) to be won but sadly we didn’t come anywhere near close to winning! What ever happened to beginners luck?!
Whilst we waited for 5ive we managed to get a couple of drinks, a hot dog and some cheesy chips each. There wasn’t a huge variety of food available but I’m certainly not going to turn down cheesy chips! It wasn’t long before 5ive took to the stage and sang all their hits from the nineties such as Everybody Get Up and Keep on Movin’. It was such a good atmosphere, everyone was having such a good time and 5ive actually still had it. I was actually pretty impressed. You can view some of the performance over on my Instagram – I’ve got the stories saved!
Afterwards, we had two hours of guilty pleasure nineties classics from a cover band. It was like being in the middle of Popworld. I was literally in my element singing away to Shania Twain and the Vengaboys. The whole night was such a laugh and took me back to the nineties. To be honest, that decade is having a bit of a revival style wise. I thought I’d share some of my top picks on how to get that 90’s look. We’re talking lot’s of checkered prints, glitzy crop tops and chunky trainers!
I’d like to thank Mecca Bingo for inviting me for such a fun night with 5ive. I had a great time and I’d love to see more similar events like this happen with bands like the Vengaboys and S Club! The tickets actually only cost £10 and included your bingo for the night which makes it such an affordable night out with some great live entertainment. Even the cover band afterwards had the place on their feet. Fingers crossed there will be more similar events coming our way soon!
Are you a 90’s kid? Do you like 5ive? Have you ever been to Mecca Bingo?
