Last month, Ellie and I headed to York for a girlie day followed by a Gin Masterclass at The Botanist, York. I absolutely love The Botanist but I’ve not been to the York one, which opened about a year ago! So when I got invited along to their Blogger’s Gin Masterclass, I was there!
I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest gin drinker in the world. I did go to the Gin Festival which I rather enjoyed but it’s still not my drink of choice until now. The masterclass was held in the most Instagrammable greenhouse styled room upstairs. We had a brief talk about the history of the drink and how Vodka and Gin are pretty much the same aside from juniper berries are added during distillation of gin. The member of staff running the workshop literally knew everything there was to know about gin, it was pretty impressive.
I’m not even going to pretend to remember all the brands of gin we tried. Overall, we tried 8 different gins and learnt what would complement them all. It was a constant stream of gin down the table and I certainly wasn’t complaining. I’ve always been a fan of more fruitier flavours which is why the Brockman’s gin was one which stood out for me.
During the tasting, we were also treated to one hell of a feast as we were brought out many different dishes to try. The Crispy Beef Salad is a new favourite of mine at The Botanist. I was also loving the chicken and halloumi hanging kebabs. I’ll definitely have to be back very soon in the future for a meal as their menu looks very delicious!
A massive thank you to The Botanist for inviting to us to The Gin Masterclass. We will certainly be back and are both now G&T converts! If you are interested in booking a master class, there’s more information here. They do Ale, Cocktail and gin Masterclasses in various locations around the UK!
Are you a fan of a G&T? Have you tried the Botanist before?
