As 2016 draws to a close, It’s time to reflect on the year. I always do a round-up type of post at the end of the year as I think it’s quite nice to look back on my favourite memories. These types of posts are the ones I’d love to read back on in a couple of years. Personally, I’ve had a pretty good 2016!
January was a pretty quiet month, I went to a couple of events in Leeds which was great to get to know more local bloggers. Search Laboratory and Posh Flooring invited me to Murder on the Posh floor which was so much fun. I also finally invested in the highly coveted Olympus Pen camera!
Literally, not a lot happened in February either, I think I spent it just planning upcoming trips and catching up with friends. Looking at my Instagram, there is a lot of lunch dates! I did, however, pop over to York for the Spring Event at Lush which was lovely to meet some more York bloggers.
March saw my first trip of the year; to Amsterdam! I was on a mission to visit new places in 2016 and Amsterdam was on my list. I was invited on a Mini Cruise with P&O and spent a night in Amsterdam. It’s an absolutely gorgeous city but the weather wasn’t on our side – I really want to visit again in Summer. You can read more about my 32 Hours in Amsterdam here & here!
I kicked off April with a visit to Manchester for the Jet2 Sunchester Event where I went “Island Hopping” and experienced what Majorca, Malta and Tenerife have to offer. There was a lot of events in April from the Fashion City York launch & Live at Leeds Festival. Icelolly.com hosted their second #BlogAtTheBeach event which was a Mexican Fiesta and mega helpful!
Disney on Ice was first on the agenda for May before heading straight from Leeds Arena to the Airport for a week in Nice, France. I spent the week exploring the Côte d’Azur and managed to see all the excitement of Cannes Film Festival (spotted loads of celebs such as George Clooney, Blake Lively, Justin Timberlake, Victoria Beckham & Kendall Jenner), attend the Historique Grand Prix in Monaco and lots of sightseeing. Monaco was amazing and I could have spent so much time there, I even won some money in Monte Carlo Casino!
I was also invited onto my first press trip with Jet 2 Holidays to Majorca. I was pretty nervous about basically going away with strangers (Lily wrote a fab post about this here) but it was so much fun. We stayed at the BH Mallorca where we partied with Mark Wright and The Fergus Resort which was so chilled and beautiful. It will also be known as the trip where little miss fussy eater (me) tried sushi and octopus!
I had been counting down the days until June, It was finally time to see Beyoncé at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. My Mum has never seen her before so I dragged her along and it was just an incredible show. I also went to see Cats the Musical in Leeds with my Grandma, I seemed to have spent half of June in either Leeds or York!
July was a very exciting month with more trips, a new arrival in the family and I also went to see James Bay. The month started off with a lovely brunch with Jaywing PR at Banyan Bar & Grill before Hayley invited me on a pretty exciting press trip to Cologne with Essence Cosmetics. They hosted an event for Beauty Bloggers but we decided to stay a couple more days staying at the Lindner City Plaza to explore all the sights. I really underestimated Cologne and thought it was such a lovely City and worth a visit!
After a lovely weekend break at Ox Pasture Hall, I was also invited on a press trip to Ibiza with icelolly.com. Ibiza certainly was an exciting adventure which saw little ol’ me go parasailing and also paddle boarding! I don’t usually step out of my comfort zone like that but I’m so proud of myself. We also partied at The Zoo Project, saw David Guetta at Ushuaia and saw the most incredible sunset.
La Redoute hosted their Summer Party in Leeds which we got to see their latest fashion collection, drink cocktails and generally have a great time. An ice cream truck even showed up! I was also invited down to London by Panasonic Lumix to try out their new camera. In order to test out how the camera works on the go we actually went on a Pedibus round London. I also went across to Manchester for the first #GirlGang Event, Jemma did an amazing job!
At the end of August was my 22nd Birthday and I decided to spend it in Disneyland Paris! My Mum and I ended up buying Annual Passes so there might be a couple more trips on the cards. It was a pretty amazing Birthday, we had breakfast with Mickey Mouse and was the last people in the parks!
September was quite quiet as I was catching up with work and my Brother also got married! My Mum and I also went to Friends Fest at Harewood House. I’m a massive Friends fan so I was literally in my element! Towards the end of September, I visited No.88 Walmgate in York to try their Freakshakes – Life changing!
The 1st of October was the Bloggers Blog Awards in Leeds. As it was in my neck of the woods, Caroline and I decided to go along. It was amazing to meet so many bloggers from around the UK who I’ve basically insta-stalked for ages! I also worked with Bon Prix on their Winter Walks lookbook in Leeds. I’ll be sharing some of the photo’s next week in a post. I was also invited along to the Emmerdale Studio Tour in Leeds which I took my Mum to. I’ll be posting about it all very soon!
November was another exciting month starting with a week in Scotland. I spent a couple of days in Edinburgh which is just one of my favourite places – Everywhere is so pretty! Charlotte and I stayed at Old Town Chambers which are 5* serviced apartments and seriously beautiful before heading up to Glasgow where she’s at University. I’ve never been to Glasgow before but it was rather lovely and I also had the best pizza I’ve ever had!
I also had a lovely couple of days in York with my friend Becca, we explored all of the museums and sights and even went on a Ghost Bus Tour. It was so lovely to see her and also visit some attractions I’ve never been to before. I’ve got part two of that trip coming next week. I also took my Grandma to London for a couple of days to see all of the Christmas lights and of course, to visit Winter Wonderland. We stayed at The Grovesnor and it was an absolutely stunning hotel!
We also managed to sneak in another trip to Disneyland Paris, this one was quite last minute. As we had bought annual passes, we knew it would be silly to pass up a trip to Disney at Christmas. I haven’t been at Christmas since I was a toddler and it was truly magical. I’d very much recommend a Christmas visit!
I headed straight from the airport to Icelolly.com’s #BlogAtTheBeach Christmas Party. After their amazing event in April, I knew I had to attend no matter what. I also made my annual trip down to Birmingham to go to the Clothes Show Live and the Christmas Markets. It was my 10th year at the Clothes Show but quite bittersweet as it was the final show as it’s moving to Liverpool next year. My final trip was with Talented Talkers and Mercure to Manchester a couple of weekends ago. No doubt, a blog post on my visit will be coming shortly but it was such a fun pre-Christmas trip.
Ooh! I’ve also put together a little montage of my year! I think this is my favourite video I’ve made and really sums up how much I’ve loved 2016!
I’ve now been full-time blogging for around 18 moths and at the start of the year, I wasn’t sure whether this was something I’d be able to continue doing in 2016. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do career-wise and what 2016 would bring. I did want to travel a bit more in 2016 but I never thought I’d be invited on several press trips and work with so many amazing companies such as Jet2 Holidays, icelolly.com and P&O. The direction of my blog has slightly changed. Whilst I still love talking about all things Fashion and Beauty, Travel has certainly been a massive part of Rachel Nicole this year and I hope it will be for 2017.
Happy New Year!
