Key pieces for your capsule wardrobe

Capsule wardrobes are embraced by those who like to keep things organised, prefer to be prepared and are perhaps looking to curb a particularly expensive shopping problem.

The amount of items in a capsule wardrobe should be no more than 37 pieces of clothing. If you’ve been considering updating your clothes rail with a ‘less is more’ approach and including more capsule pieces, then here are the essentials to get on a hanger:

Wardrobe Essentials with Superdry - Rachel Nicole UK Fashion BloggerHigh quality jeans

Jeans are a wardrobe staple and you should have a pair of well-fitting jeans hanging in your wardrobe that can be worn in both casual and smart situations. Skinny are a good recommendation, as they can be both casual and dressed up. One black and one blue pair should do it.

Basic t-shirts

These should be plain in easy to style colours and in a variety of shapes. From actual t-shirts to strappy camis – four or five of these should be enough. Check out the women’s clothing from Superdry for high quality offerings for this essential.

Shift dress

Classic and always stylish, shift dresses are easy to wear and look great for the office or that dinner date at the weekend. Perhaps opt for one or two, definitely in black and the other in a colour you enjoy wearing.

Blazer

Another item that can be worn for a multitude of scenarios. The blazer is perfect for throwing over that shift dress for the office or pairing with the skinny jeans and a basic t-shirt at the weekend.

Cardigan

Easy to throw on at the weekend or if you’re feeling particularly tired in the morning a comfy cardigan is a wardrobe must and works with most outfit choices.

Pencil skirt

A timeless skirt design, the pencil skirt is perfect for long days in the office but can also be worn at the weekend with a basic t-shirt and your favourite comfy trainers.

Loafers

These babies will be worn with pretty much everything, and we recommend you pick up a high quality pair that will last excessive wear – no £5 Primark shoes! Dune offer a huge range of stylish flats that go with everything, check out their range here.

White shirt

Great for important meetings at the office, the crisp white shirt can be worn with that blazer, your skinny jeans and those structured flats.

Heels

Now, unless you can manage them, don’t go buying a pair of towering stilettos. Simple, mid-size heels work great and black is the ideal colour. They can be worn for both work and nights out. They are such a versatile pair of shoes to have in the wardrobe.

Trainers

A comfy pair of trainers for casual looks are an essential wardrobe addition. Vans or Converse are great fashion trainers for such a job. Alternatively, you could pick up some bold coloured Nikes if that’s more your style.

The capsule wardrobe is all about buying timeless, easy to style pieces that look great every time. Have a good clear out, try it out today and discover how to reduce your time and stress in the morning when you’re getting ready!

XOXO

Love the idea of this! I think it’s very important for everyone to keep their wardrobe quite minimal and always downsizing it as the seasons and months go by! I definitely have about 40 pieces in my wardrobe, not more. Love that black cardigan in that photo too, I need that!

Love this 🙂 A white tee and a blazer is always useful! I used to do project 333. I still kinda like to make a capsule for every season, but kinda with my own rules to it 🙂

I’ve been losing weight recently so I’m looking to invest in an all new wardrobe for winter rather than trying to find everything I currently have three sizes smaller! I’ll have to consider making it a capsule wardrobe after reading this 🙂 x

Wonderful post, very useful what you say! I have always followed these rules , now having a fashion blog is more difficult … I end up adding and adding things in the closet!

I’m more of an Adidas kind of gal in terms of trainers at the moment!
I would never be able to limit my wardrobe to 37 items!

Full disclosure, I am definitely not someone capable of having a capsule wardrobe. I shop too much, hoard and keep all my old things, and I’m not too sensible with the pieces I buy. I do however think it is a great idea and would be a much simpler process getting dressed. I completely agree with all of your must haves! Great post, Katie xx
